The Opportunity
This role supports the purchasing function by ensuring goods and services meet quality standards, pricing expectations, and delivery timelines. The position plays a critical role in maintaining supply continuity for manufacturing operations through coordination with suppliers and internal teams.
What You’ll Do
- Utilize MRP systems to review customer demand and manufacturing requirements, issuing purchase orders accordingly
- Ensure timely delivery of materials by coordinating with suppliers and internal teams including manufacturing, quality, engineering, logistics, and warehouse
- Follow up with suppliers on order confirmations and delivery timelines
- Maintain accurate purchase order data including delivery dates, pricing, quantities, and terms
- Monitor past due orders and proactively resolve delays with vendors
- Provide backup support for purchasing team members as needed
- Report material-related issues in daily production meetings and escalate when necessary
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while communicating demand schedules
- Identify and mitigate supply risks, proposing corrective actions when needed
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through benchmarking, vendor sourcing, and negotiations
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and support financial accuracy
- Collaborate across departments to manage excess inventory and conduct end-of-program analysis
- Analyze and resolve inventory discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing solutions
- Generate reports for daily operations meetings
- Participate in continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives
- Solve problems cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Support additional projects and reporting as required
What You Bring
- Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management
- 5+ years of purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment
- Post-secondary education in Materials Management, Purchasing, or a related field
- Skilled certifications (NISCL or APICS) are preferred
- Knowledge of welding, machining, and fabrication manufacturing
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- High level of organization, planning, and execution ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems
- Experience with ROP, forecasting, and lean methodologies is an asset
- Understanding of foreign exchange impacts on purchasing decisions

Work Environment
- Manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, temperature variation, and active production environments
- Regular interaction with production and operations teams
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 lbs
- Periodic travel to suppliers, customers, or other locations may be required
