QualificationsMINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Bachelor's Degree in medical science or a related study area, including laboratory analysis techniques
OR
- Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with one years = directly-related experience
OR
- High school completion with job-related options with a minimum of four years = directly-related experience.
EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience (minimum 1 year preferred) in an academic lab with related research techniques is required
- Murine or other rodent experience is required, but specific of the Collagen-Induced Arthritis model and other experimental methodology can be taught.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Experience with immunology related laboratory technique such as cell culture, PBMC isolation, ELISA, flow cytometry real time PCR, immunofluorescence microscopy is required.
- Experience with murine models is required.
- Experience with statistical programs such as Graphpad Prism and computing programs such as Endnote, Word/Word Perfect, Excel, and Power Point is required.
- Ability to adapt techniques, to plan and carry out experiments and procedures under general direction and to keep within budget and schedule guidelines is requried.
- Initiative and ability to master current and difficult techniques through further education or training is required.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team is required.
- Ability to train staff and students in complex techniques used in the workplace is required.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Prior involvement in writing manuscripts related to immunology and autoimmune diseases is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilitiesEXPERIMENTAL
- Performs routine lab assays with human plasma/serum, blood cells, cell lines and murine models.
MAINTENANCE
- Operates/maintains lab equipment including centrifuges, biosafety cabinets.
COMMUNICATION
- Reads literature, data analysis, make graphs, powerpoint presentations.
CLEANING
- Helps with organization, functioning of lab including basic lab cleanup and help with inventory, autoclaving, ordering of lab consumables/equipment.
SUPERVISION
- Assists supervisor with training scientific techniques to students.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
