Role Description
We are seeking a Renewable Energy Engineer. You will lead technical design, engineering coordination, and professional sealing of deliverables for solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and microgrid electrical systems, supporting projects from concept through commissioning. This is a full-time role based in Saskatoon, SK.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Engineer of Record for electrical designs and technical deliverables; review, sign, and seal drawings, specifications, and reports as required.
- Lead and/or execute photovoltaic (PV) and BESS electrical design, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams (where applicable), protection concepts, control interfaces, and equipment specifications.
- Develop engineering packages for microgrids, including interconnection design, distribution architecture, and operating modes (grid-tied, islanded, black start if applicable).
- Coordinate with EPCs, utilities, owners, and Indigenous/community stakeholders; support technical discussions, design reviews, and approvals.
- Perform and/or oversee power system studies as needed (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, harmonics) and integrate results into design.
- Perform and/or oversee grounding and bonding design and studies for renewable and microgrid installations.
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications, evaluating vendor submittals, and responding to RFIs.
- Provide construction-phase engineering support, including field reviews, change management,
and commissioning support.
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code, utility requirements, relevant CSA/IEEE standards), and internal QA/QC processes.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to improving internal design standards, templates, and workflows.
Required Qualifications
- P. Eng. with APEGS (or eligibility to register in Saskatchewan)
- 6+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
- Proven experience in solar PV and BESS electrical design
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and utility interconnection
- Strong technical writing and ability to manage multiple projects
- Must be able to work from the Saskatoon on-reserve office as a primary base.
Preferred / Assets:
- Experience with power system studies and tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, CYME, RSCAD (desired).
- Experience with PV modelling and layout tools such as Helio Scope and PVSyst (asset).
- Experience with grounding studies/design for substations, PV plants, or industrial sites (desired).
- Broader electrical background, including building electrical design and/or electric utility systems (robust asset).
- Experience supporting commissioning, performance validation, and operating procedures for microgrids and storage systems.
Location
This position is based in Saskatoon, SK, at 600 - 2555 Grasswood Road East. Some travel may be required.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday - 40 hours per week.
