Role Overview
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Halton Region Branch (CMHA Halton)
is currently seeking a student or recent grad in a Human Resources or related program for an 8-week full-time placement (35 hours per week) starting in May 2026. Reporting to both the Director and Human Resources Specialist, the Human Resources Assistant will primarily support the HR team with Accreditation related activities leading up to June 7, 2026, as well as employee file maintenance, document management and HR Policy reviews and updates.
This role is well suited for someone who is detail-oriented and enjoys working with records and documentation. The successful candidate will spend a portion of their time reviewing, organizing, filing, and digitizing employee records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. They will also be assigned policy reviews and update work and working on an upcoming Wellness initiative. Additional administrative support to the HR team, including recruitment and HR initiatives, may also be required.
The Human Resources Assistant opportunity position is for 35 hours per week. This role will be a hybrid role with some hours onsite required onsite at our Oakville location. (likely 2 days per week) The remaining time/hours can be worked remotely. Ideally this role will commence mid-May 2026.
Position Requirements
In accordance with the Ontario Summer Jobs program you must meet the below minimum qualifications;
- Be between the ages of 15-30 years of age
- You are required to be living in Ontario during the term of employment
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada for the full duration of the employment period and have a valid Social Insurance Number upon being hired
Skills Needed
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Prior policy writing or reviewing experience would be helpful
- Experience with filing, data entry, or administrative support is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong customer service skills (retail or hospitality experience considered an asset)
- Ability to work collaboratively with management and front-line staff
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Successful completion of a Police Record Check
