JOB STATEMENT:
The Corporate Controller is the senior accounting leader for a highly independent subsidiary within the Desjardins group. This role has full responsibility for the subsidiary’s IFRS financial reporting, internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), accounting systems, and meeting consolidated group reporting requirements. The Corporate Controller operates with significant autonomy, acting as the primary authority on accounting, controls, and reporting for the business, and as a key partner to leadership in a regulated asset management environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Reporting & IFRS Compliance
- Own and deliver accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated IFRS financial statements
- Manage the end-to-end financial close process, including judgments, estimates, and complex accounting areas
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, internal accounting policies, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Prepare and submit group consolidation reporting packages, including disclosures, tax provisions, analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Serve as the primary technical accounting advisor on management fees, performance fees, investment-related accounting,
and expense allocations.
Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR)
- Design, operate, and continuously improve an effective ICFR framework aligned with regulatory expectations and business risk.
- Maintain control documentation, oversee testing, and ensure sustained operating effectiveness.
- Lead internal and external audit engagements and corporate control reviews.
- Identify, assess, and remediate control deficiencies using sound professional judgment.
- Promote a robust culture of governance, compliance, and accountability.
Accounting Systems & Data Integrity
- Own the general ledger and accounting systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate access controls.
- Maintain alignment with corporate systems while supporting local operational and regulatory needs.
- Lead or support system enhancements, automation initiatives, and process improvements.
- Ensure accounting data supports management reporting, regulatory submissions, and group consolidation requirements.
Asset Management Accounting & Operations
- Oversee general ledger management, account reconciliations, and financial close activities.
- Manage accounting for management fees, performance fees, and other revenue streams.
- Oversee accounting for expense allocations, contract costs and intangible assets, fixed assets, leases, tax provisions, business combinations,
goodwill and other intangible assets.
- Manage intercompany transactions, balances, and reconciliations with group entities.
- Apply sound judgment to complex, non-routine, or judgmental transactions.
Audit, Regulatory & Group Interaction
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, and corporate finance teams.
- Coordinate statutory financial statements, regulatory filings, and audit deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and group reporting deadlines.
- Engage with corporate accounting teams on policy interpretation while maintaining appropriate local independence.
Leadership & Business Partnership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on accounting, controls, and financial risk matters.
- Partner with FP&A;, Tax, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to align accounting outcomes with business activities.
- Support strategic initiatives with accounting guidance and control considerations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation
- 8+ years of relevant work experience, ideally within the asset management or financial services industry
- Expertise in internal controls over financial reporting
- Experience maintaining ERP systems within a consolidated group structure
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven leadership skills managing teams in a results oriented environment
COMPENSATION:
- The base salary range is expected to be between $140,000 - $160,000, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus.
