Senior Planner – Land Use Planning & Approvals:

The Properties division at Amico is adding to its current workforce with a recent Senior Planner position.
Position Overview
Amico Properties is seeking a Senior Planner to lead complex land use planning and approvals across a growing portfolio of large-scale residential developments throughout Ontario. This role sits at the center of the development lifecycle — influencing how projects are conceived, positioned, and ultimately approved.
Working alongside development leadership, this individual will not only manage approvals but also contribute to strategic thinking around land use, density, built form, and municipal positioning, ensuring each project is optimized both from a planning and market perspective.
This is a critical role within a highly active development platform backed by one of the region’s most capable construction organizations.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full planning and approvals lifecycle across multiple projects, including:
- Official Plan Amendments (OPA)
- Zoning By-law Amendments (ZBA)
- Draft Plan of Subdivision and Condominium
- Site Plan Approval
- Minor Variances and Committee of Adjustment applications
- Act as the primary interface with municipalities, including planning staff, councils, committees, and approval authorities
- Develop and execute approvals strategies that align with project timelines, proforma assumptions, and overall development objectives
- Prepare and present high-quality materials for council and public meetings, demonstrating a deep command of each project and its planning rationale
- Provide early-stage input on site acquisition and due diligence, including:
- Highest and best use analysis
- Planning risk identification
- Density and yield optimization
- Alignment with municipal policy and growth objectives
- Manage and coordinate a full consultant team, including civil engineers, transportation consultants, environmental specialists, and architects
- Drive creative planning solutions that unlock value while maintaining alignment with municipal frameworks
- Monitor and interpret evolving provincial and municipal policy changes (Planning Act, PPS, municipal OP updates, etc.) and translate them into actionable strategy
- Support development initiatives in specialized sectors, including seniors and retirement housing, where planning nuance and approvals strategy are critical

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Land Use Planning, Real Estate Development, or Engineering
- Master’s degree in planning or related field strongly preferred
- RPP eligibility is required
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in Ontario land use planning
- Experience managing large-scale residential, mixed-use, or master-planned communities
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Ontario Planning Act
- Municipal planning frameworks across multiple jurisdictions
- Ability to manage approval timelines and risk factors

- Based in Windsor or GTA
- Regular travel across Ontario required depending on project locations
