Job Overview

MTD Metro Tool & Die is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Toolroom Supervisor/LEADHAND to oversee the operations of our manufacturing toolroom. The ideal candidate must possess robust Leadership and will be building dies along with the tool makers when required. This leadership role involves managing tool inventory, ensuring precision in machining processes, and maintaining safety and efficiency standards within the toolroom environment. The Toolroom Supervisor/ Leadhand will play a vital role in supporting manufacturing operations by providing high-quality tooling solutions and fostering continuous improvement through lean manufacturing principles.

Key Responsibilities:

- HANDS ON support in the Toolroom by building, repairing and general maintenance of Tools dies, fixtures etc.
- Supervise daily toolroom activities, including new tool builds, repair, modification, and preventive maintenance
- Lead and support toolmakers to meet production schedules and quality standards
- Coordinate tooling requirements with production, engineering, and maintenance teams
- Ensure proper setup, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of dies, jigs, and fixtures
- Maintain tooling documentation, inventory, and spare parts control
- Enforce health, safety, and housekeeping standards within the toolroom
- Support cost reduction, uptime improvement, and process optimization initiatives
- Responsible to maintain open channel of communication/support with all internal departments.
- Responsible for maintaining documentation of Toolroom hours into our ERP system




- Responsible to ensure all company policies and procedures are followed by all members of the department.

- Manage tooling through launch, production & service to meet production/quality requirements.
- Accountable for department budget preparation, approval and attainment
- Trains and orients new employees
- Perform general housekeeping and machine maintenance

Experience

- Proven experience in a tool & Die & manufacturing or machining environment
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Solid Works and blueprint reading skills
- Familiarity with CNC lathe, CNC milling machine, and other CNC equipment operations
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to optimize processes
- Strong math skills for precise measurements using calipers and other measurement tools
- Leadership experience in managing a team within a fast-paced production setting is preferred

Skills and Abilities

- Must be a certified Tool & Die Maker
- Must have 10 plus years in NEW DIE BUILDS and die maintenance
- Must have experience with supervising/overseeing a team
