company headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. The Company delivers hydro vac excavation
and industrial services to industrial, commercial, and municipal clients across the Edmonton
metropolitan area and surrounding regions.
Spartan maintains rigorous operational standards with respect to safety compliance,
equipment integrity, client service, and environmental responsibility. The Company is actively
expanding its field operations and seeks individuals who hold themselves to the same

POSITION SUMMARY
Spartan Hydro Vac Services Ltd. invites applications for the position of Hydro Vac Swamper.
Reporting to the assigned Hydro Vac Operator and the Operations Manager, the Hydro Vac
Swamper provides direct field support to hydro vacuum excavation operations. This role is
integral to the safe and efficient execution of daily field activities and requires a candidate who
demonstrates reliability, physical capability, a strong safety orientation, and a genuine
willingness to develop their skills within the hydro vac industry.
The successful candidate will work in close coordination with the Operator on all aspects of
field operations and will be held to the same professional conduct standards as all Spartan
field personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Hydro Vac Swamper shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Assisting the Hydro Vac Operator in the setup, operation, and breakdown of hydro
vacuum excavation equipment at each job site in accordance with manufacturer
specifications, site requirements, and Company procedures.
Directing the Operator to target excavation areas and providing ground-level guidance
to ensure the accurate and safe application of pressurized water and vacuum systems.

Conducting pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections in coordination with the
assigned Operator, and reporting any deficiencies, damage, or safety concerns to the
Operations Manager without delay.
Managing the collection, containment, and disposal of excavated materials, debris, and
slurry in full compliance with applicable environmental regulations and Company
disposal protocols.
Maintaining a safe and organized work site at all times, including the proper placement
of signage, barriers, and personal protective equipment as required by site conditions
and applicable legislation.
Communicating effectively with the assigned Operator and field team throughout all
phases of the job to ensure coordinated, efficient, and safe operations.
Reporting all incidents, near-misses, equipment issues, or site safety concerns to the




Operations Manager or Operator promptly and accurately.
Adhering to all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, including the
Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as all site-specific and client-
specific safety requirements.
Representing Spartan Hydro Vac Services Ltd. professionally in all client-facing and
public-facing interactions while performing field duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must satisfy all of the following requirements to be considered for this position:

Licensing and Driving
A valid Class 5 Drivers Licence issued in the Province of Alberta is required at
minimum. Possession of a valid Class 3 Commercial Drivers Licence will be regarded
as a significant advantage and may be weighted accordingly in the evaluation of
candidates.
A clean drivers abstract is required. Submission of a current drivers abstract will be a
condition of any offer of employment. Unresolved convictions including but not limited
to impaired driving or distracted driving offences will disqualify a candidate from
consideration.
The successful candidate must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening at the
time of hire and must remain fit for duty in accordance with Spartans Drug and Alcohol
Policy at all times during employment.
Field Experience
Prior experience in a hydro vac, excavation, or related industrial field environment is
preferred. Candidates without direct hydro vac experience who possess a verifiable
record of field labour experience and demonstrate a strong aptitude for learning will be
considered.
Familiarity with heavy equipment environments, underground utility awareness, and
safe excavation practices in proximity to buried infrastructure is considered an asset.

Mandatory Certifications
Standard First Aid with CPR current and valid certification required at time of
application.
Ground Disturbance Level II valid certification required at time of application.

Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) valid certification required at time of
application.
Confined Space Entry valid certification required at time of application.
Fall Protection valid certification required at time of application.
Preferred Certifications
H2S Alive certification is preferred. Candidates without current H2S Alive certification
may be considered provided all mandatory certifications are satisfied and the candidate




demonstrates a commitment to obtaining H2S Alive prior to or during the onboarding
period.

Physical and Professional Requirements
Physical fitness consistent with the demands of field-based hydro vac operations,
including the capacity to perform sustained manual labour in variable weather and site
conditions throughout a full working shift.
A demonstrable commitment to workplace safety and a verifiable history of safe work
practices in prior employment.
Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to follow direction precisely
and work effectively under the supervision of the assigned Operator.
A genuine willingness to learn, take direction, and continuously develop skills and
knowledge within the hydro vac industry. Candidates who demonstrate initiative and a
growth-oriented mindset will be viewed favourably.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The following conditions apply to all candidates and will be assessed prior to any offer of
employment being extended:
Submission of a current drivers abstract is mandatory prior to offer. Any unresolved
driving convictions may result in disqualification.
The successful candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol
screening. Ongoing fitness for duty in compliance with Spartans Drug and Alcohol
Policy is a condition of continued employment.
Employment is subject to a ninety (90) day probationary period during which
performance, safety compliance, and professional conduct will be formally evaluated.
Continuation of employment beyond the probationary period is contingent upon a
satisfactory review.
This position requires early morning starts, and may involve irregular hours and
occasional extended shifts depending on project and client requirements. Flexibility in
scheduling is expected and required.
All mandatory certifications must be valid and current at the time of hire. Any lapse in
certification during the course of employment must be disclosed to the Operations
Manager immediately upon the candidate becoming aware of such lapse.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Spartan Hydro Vac Services Ltd. offers a competitive compensation package commensurate
with the qualifications and verified experience of the successful candidate. Specific
compensation will be determined based on experience, certifications held, and performance in
