St. Francis Xavier University, one of Canada’s leading universities and most prominent athletics programs, is seeking a Head Coach, X-Women Soccer, to join our passionate Athletics & Recreation team. Reporting to the Director, Athletics & Recreation, the Head Coach is responsible for all areas of leadership related to the X-Women Soccer program at St. Francis Xavier University.
The Head Coach will be expected to represent STFX University to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct and must comply with all AUS, U SPORTS and STFX University rules, regulations and policies. This will be done in a context where we commit to providing the premier student-athlete experience in Canada, which focuses on developing and inspiring Leaders & Champions in academics, athletics, citizenship and leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all coaching duties consistent with the operation of a quality, comprehensive and successful university sport varsity program to achieve regional and national prominence. This includes leading the technical, tactical, physical and psychological preparation of the team and its student-athletes;
- Develop an effective program for the recruitment and retention of high-quality student-athletes, monitoring academic progress and providing appropriate guidance as needed;
- Directing, planning, strategic development, recruiting,
staffing, budget development and monitoring, program evaluation, and community outreach;
- Accountable for developing and implementing a fundraising strategy (includes camps), in conjunction with the Athletics Fund Development Coordinator, to assist the team in advancing to regional and national prominence. This includes developing and managing camp programs;
- Create an implement a communications, community engagement and alumni relations plan to promote the X-Women Soccer program;
- Manage the budget for the women’s soccer team;
- Teach skills units within our Human Kinetics Department.
Qualifications and Skills
- Undergraduate degree in a related field with a minimum of five years’ experience coaching high performance soccer and administering elite level athletes and programs (or equivalent combination of training and experience);
- Must have completed, or be in the process of completing CONCACAF ‘B’ Diploma (‘A’ preferred) and the NCCP Competition Development Coach Education modules and Making Ethical Decisions (MED);
- Experience dealing with and developing high performance athletes in a university environment;
- Proven leadership skills with integrity – serve as a role model, value-set leader, mentor and motivator for STFX student-athletes;
- Ability to elicit and foster trust, develop positive working relationships with other coaches and student-athletes;
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, superior organizational skills, with the ability to recruit nationally;
- Be committed to developing and inspiring student-athletes to be Leaders & Champions in academics, athletics, citizenship and leadership. Demonstrate a commitment to the total development of the student-athlete.
