Position: Convocation Sales Associate
Reports to: Store Manager
Division: Retail
Location: U of T Bookstore, St George Campus
What You’ll Be Doing
The Convocation Sales Associate supports store operations across multiple departments during the spring convocation period. This role delivers front-line customer service, assists with merchandise and web order fulfillment, and supports day-to-day operational tasks as directed by store management.
Associates in this role work across departments as assigned, reporting to various Department Managers. In June, this role transitions to approximately 20 days of outdoor convocation events, requiring associates to set up, operate, restock, and tear down the convocation pop-up daily across a range of weather and outdoor conditions.
This is a contract position of approximately three months beginning in late April, with the possibility of extension. Hours range from 20 to 35 per week. Shifts are scheduled Monday through Saturday and include mornings, afternoons, and evenings. This is an existing vacancy.
Hourly rate: $18.25
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide prompt, professional assistance in person.
- Operate a point-of-sale (POS) terminal and process all forms of payment accurately.
- Answer customer questions and ensure all service interactions are resolved effectively.
- Pick and pack merchandise for web and in-store orders.
- Unpack, stock, and merchandise product across assigned departments.
- Work in the Medical department, assisting with stocking, organization, and customer inquiries as directed.
- Maintain accurate shelving and organization of trade books.
- Maintain housekeeping and presentation standards in assigned areas.
- Support store opening and closing tasks as directed.
- Assist with daily setup and teardown of the convocation pop-up at outdoor event locations.
- Sell merchandise, process transactions,
and restock the pop-up throughout the event day.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
- Previous customer service or retail experience is preferred.
- This role involves moving and handling merchandise and materials up to 15 kg.
- This role requires remaining active throughout the shift, including extended periods at outdoor convocation events.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
- Customer-focused and motivated, with a commitment to professional service.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a busy environment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
- Self-directed, open to feedback, and uses sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or POS systems is highly desirable.
- Intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning is highly valued -- a growth mindset.

The UofT Bookstore provides many important goods and services to the University of Toronto community. We operate four stores across the three U of T campuses (St. George, Mississauga, Scarborough, and Faculty of Law) and a large online shop that ships Canada-wide and internationally.
