Senior Business Analyst – Role Description
Overview
The Senior Business Analyst (BA) plans, manages, leads, and oversees requirements across Journeys and Platforms, driving continuous value delivery aligned to business Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). This role is critical in translating complex business needs into high‑quality, outcome‑focused requirements that enable efficient and effective delivery.
The Senior BA brings deep expertise in requirements management, operating models, traceability standards, and stakeholder leadership, enabling the realization of measurable business benefits and efficiencies.
Assigned to one or more Journey Pods and/or Agile Release Trains (ARTs), the Senior BA partners closely with the Product Owner and cross‑functional Pod members to ensure strategic vision is translated into tangible customer and colleague value.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, lead, and oversee end‑to‑end requirements activities
- Analyze impacts to customers, colleagues, stakeholders, processes, and technology solutions to achieve targeted business outcomes
- Support and validate problem statements, value propositions, and opportunity definitions
- Drive and validate measurable business benefits and success criteria aligned with segment OKRs
- Ensure adherence to enterprise requirements management frameworks and quality standards
- Elicit, document, and maintain high‑quality requirements with full end‑to‑end traceability
- Contribute to and influence backlog prioritization to maximize value delivery
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage requirements‑related risks, dependencies, and key decisions
- Understand and articulate linkages between portfolio investment, business strategy,
technology strategy, and target‑state architecture
- Provide thought leadership and constructively challenge the status quo
- Support Product Owners during Program Increment (PI) Planning and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs)
- Advise Product Owners on goals, objectives, and success measures
- Connect dependencies across Journeys, Platforms, Pods, Solution Trains, and ARTs
- Partner with Change and Channel Enablement teams to assess impacts, readiness, and resistance points
- Navigate ambiguity and complexity while maintaining delivery focus
- Influence leaders and stakeholders to support informed decision‑making
- Foster strong collaboration between business and technology while championing psychological safety
- Reduce rework and wasted effort through effective analysis and clarity
- Contribute to Sprint goals and velocity targets
- Lead requirements quality assessments to mitigate delivery and solution risk
- Provide leadership guidance and recommendations to ensure solutions meet business needs
- Demonstrate resiliency, adaptability, and flexibility, including short‑term coverage for Pod roles (PO or Scrum Master) if required
- Mentor and guide junior BAs, BSAs, Pod members, and partners
- Actively participate in the Analyst Practice Community of Interest
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience as a Business Analyst
- CBAP certification is an asset
- Robust knowledge of Personal Banking products
- Experience working with Waterfall, Agile, and SAFe methodologies
- Proven ability to operate across multiple Pods simultaneously
- Strong collaboration, leadership, critical thinking, and creative problem‑solving skills
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement capabilities
- Comfort working in fast‑paced, complex, and evolving environments
