What You Will Do
Reporting to the Manager, Wellness, the Specialist is responsible for the leadership, development, administration, and evaluation of Providence Health Care (PHC) strategies that promote employee physical and psychological health, supporting a safe and healthy workplace.
- Plays a key role in the development and enhancement of programs focused on health promotion, illness/disease prevention, and workplace psychological safety.
- Develops and implements strategies to support employee health and wellness self-management.
- Leads the development, implementation, and training related to CSA Psychologically Safe Workplace standards, including policy development and participation in Respect at Work initiatives.
- Establishes measures to monitor program effectiveness and assess, mitigate, and control organizational risks.
- Provides oversight and leadership of PHC's communicable disease exposure program and immunization campaigns.
- Acts as a subject matter expert and provides leadership, guidance, and consultation to multidisciplinary teams across PHC.
- Builds and strengthens partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Represents PHC on committees, working groups, and organizational initiatives as required.
What You Bring
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in health sciences, health promotion, public health, occupational health, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of recent, related experience as an occupational health professional in a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated experience in health promotion, illness/disease prevention, mental health programs,
occupational health and safety practices, and program development, implementation, marketing, and evaluation.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of current health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Strong understanding of health coaching principles and behavior change strategies.
- Proven leadership ability to guide and support staff, leaders, and teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to apply adult learning principles.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Advanced mediation, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong project planning and management capabilities.
- Experience compiling, analyzing, and reporting statistical data.
- Knowledge of research methodologies and program evaluation practices.
- Proficiency with relevant computer applications and systems.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day
- Leads the development of innovative programs focused on illness/disease prevention and psychological health to reduce disability across PHC.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates programs and policies using evidence-based approaches, including needs assessments, statistical analysis, research literature, and legislative requirements.
- Champions health, safety, and wellness initiatives across the organization, fostering a culture of accountability and engagement.
- Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders to support policy implementation, program expansion, and funding opportunities.
- Builds business cases and supports presentations to senior leadership for program approval.
- Coordinates and manages programs and projects across multiple sites to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
- Acts as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and leadership to HR Advisors and PHC staff.
- Develops and delivers training related to employee health, wellness, and psychological safety.
- Supports staff and leaders in the management of critical incidents.
- Maintains and updates program documentation and resources.
- Monitors trends and emerging issues in healthcare and health promotion to enhance program delivery.
- Provides leadership for communicable disease exposure programs and immunization initiatives.
- Performs other related duties as required.
