About the role

Guided by our mission to strengthen and build Jewish life in Winnipeg, across Canada, in Israel, and around the world, this Development Associate role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful and lasting community impact.

Designed for someone in the early stages of their fundraising career, this position is ideal for a proactive self starter with experience in event coordination and data management, and a genuine desire to learn and grow.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate collaborates closely with colleagues and volunteers to advance fundraising goals and strengthen donor engagement. This role comes at a pivotal moment for the Federation, as we wrap up one annual campaign, launch a short term fundraising initiative, and prepare for the next campaign cycle.

- Proven ability to compose clear and engaging email communications that share relevant department, organization, or event information.
- Excellent organizational skills, adhering to timelines and details related to projects, etc.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to build solid working relationships within a team.
- Professionalism, discretion, and sound judgement in managing sensitive conversations and information.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Commitment to working within the mission of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional pre scheduled evenings or weekends for meetings and events.

Assets
- Post secondary education or equivalent experience in business, event planning, fundraising, or related field.
- Experience working with volunteers or community organizations.
- Experience with database management systems or CRM platforms.
- Familiarity with SharePoint.
- Familiarity with email marketing tools such as Constant Contact.
- Knowledge of the Jewish community and its customs and traditions.

Responsibilities Division Leadership (specializing in early career professionals)
- Partner with volunteer leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate the division's engagement, event, and annual giving strategies.
- Lead donor cultivation, engagement, and stewardship activities tailored to the division's assigned goals and demographics.
- Work collaboratively with the marketing and communications department to manage the division's communications, social media, and marketing functions.
- Utilize up to date insights into the tools, platforms, and conversations shaping the experiences of people in the early stages of their careers and leverage that knowledge to engage meaningfully.
- Manage logistical and operational components of donor-facing events and programs, including scheduling, budgeting, vendor management, and onsite support.
- Conduct post event evaluations and apply learnings and data insights for ongoing program improvement.
- Maintain accurate division related records in the CRM database, ensuring data quality and accessibility.
- Build and maintain professional networks with national and U.S. partners, sharing knowledge, trends, and best practices.
- Manage the ongoing recruitment, engagement, organization, communication, motivation, and appreciation of 100+ volunteer canvassers involved in the annual campaign.
- Coordinate and ensure volunteers have the tools and information they need to engage donors effectively.
- Utilize the expertise within the team to strategize best practices in connecting volunteers with donors.





Donor Relations and Stewardship Leadership
- Lead the customer service experience as a welcoming and informed point of contact for donors, responding to inquiries by phone and email with professionalism and care.
- Manage numerous regular back office donor contact management tasks that include but are not limited to providing donors with pledge reminders, gift acknowledgements, tribute and condolence cards, and tailored donor communications that strengthen donor engagement and trust.

Database and Reporting Support
- Provide data entry support within the department to maintain accurate, timely, and clean donor records and ensure data integrity within the organization's CRM.
- Generate reports, track campaign metrics, and support ongoing data analysis that informs strategy and planning.

Campaign, Program, and Event Support
- Provide event logistics support, including planning, registration, volunteer coordination, and event day operations.
- Assist with the coordination of meetings and fundraising activities for a variety of projects and demographic target groups.
- Assist with the development and refinement of outreach strategies that deepen involvement across diverse donor groups.
- Contribute ideas to the strategic planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of fundraising and community events.

Operational and Administrative Support
- Provide daily operational support to the development team, including preparing correspondence, meeting materials, presentations, and managing project coordination.
- Support budget aligned activities, ensuring effective and responsible use of resources.
- Prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and utilize organizational tools to maximize positive outcomes.
- Perform accurate database data to ensure clean and consistent donor records.
- Assist in broader organizational initiatives to ensure alignment with overall fundraising strategies.
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures to ensure an efficient and professional workplace.
- Maintain ongoing, clear communication and timely reporting.
- Provide staff backup as needed and contribute to a collaborative team culture, recognizing that fundraising success is a collective achievement.

Cross Organizational Alignment
- Participate actively in team meetings, planning sessions, professional development opportunities, and donor/community gatherings.

Other Duties
- Provide flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and community events.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
