Description:
Normative Ethics concerns general questions about what makes actions right or wrong. Topics include, among others, the plausibility of various ethical theories such as consequentialism, deontology, and virtue ethics, and questions about the moral significance of distinctions such as doing vs allowing and intending vs foreseeing.

The following position for a Sessional Lecturer is available in the Department of Philosophy for the Summer 2026 academic session. This is an emergency posting in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 Unit 3. Please note that the position below is tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolments.
Schedule:
Tuesday and Thursday: 3:00 - 6:00 PM
Delivery Mode: In-Person
Estimated TA Support: 70 hours
Qualifications:
- PhD in-hand, preferably in philosophy.
- Prior experience as a course instructor, preferably in Philosophy at U of T.
- Past teaching experience is more relevant than the need to acquire experience in respect of this position.
- Mastery of the subject-matter of the course and topic-related teaching experience.
- Related research and a record of research achievement is considered an asset to this position.
Duties and responsibilities: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
Note:
All positions involve completion of any course grading not already finished by June 2026.
