The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Adult Surgery Perioperative, Ambulatory Breast Health & Midwifery, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will join other CNS's in the Women's and Newborn Health Program as an expert practitioner who promotes excellent care and advances nursing practice.
- Providing leadership in nursing and working collaboratively in an interprofessional team environment;
- Integrating the skills and knowledge of advanced practice nursing in a collaborative practice setting leading and mentoring team members in evidence-based practice and quality improvement;
- Working in partnership with professional nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic patient/family centred-care;
- Advance nursing practice through knowledge translation;
- Functioning as a change agent by challenging current practices and creating an environment of independence and autonomy.
The successful candidate will also be eligible for joint appointment with the School of Nursing at Dalhousie University.
Hours of Work
Monday - Friday, day shifts
Your Qualifications
- Masters in Nursing required
- Currently registered, or eligible to be registered, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required
- Minimum three years clinical experience in perinatal nursing required with five years preferred
- Certification in/or plans to obtain CNA Certification in Perinatal considered an asset
- Demonstrated advanced theoretical knowledge in clinical practice, consultation, leadership, education, and research
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, translate and apply evidence within unique populations and programs of care required
- Demonstrated accomplishments as a nurse leader, facilitator, innovator, role model, advocate, coach and change agent
- Demonstrated advanced communication skills (verbal and written) required
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations required
- Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of nursing practice
- Demonstrated experience implementation of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives required
- Demonstrated ability to integrate creativity and innovation into the practice of nursing
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with interprofessional team colleagues, patients, families and community partners
- Demonstrated skills in leading and facilitating groups
- Ongoing commitment to continuing self-development
- Competencies in other languages an asset
- Current successful completion of CPR Level C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required
Where there are no qualified candidates who meet the minimum education requirements, consideration may be given to candidates in progress of completing the Master's degree in nursing.
