This position will be under the Vela Software operating group in Toronto, Ontario.

The Position

With over one hundred transactions completed in 2025, we are looking for a top performing business development professional to join Vela’s M&A; deal origination team.

This individual will be responsible for sourcing, qualifying, nurturing, and managing a pipeline of acquisition opportunities.

The ideal candidate will balance salesmanship and drive for business development activities with the financial acumen required to coordinate and facilitate critical aspects of the transaction lifecycle in a C level facing role. The candidate should have a record of surpassing targets in a deal sourcing environment with an entrepreneurial spirit. They should also be an independent thinker with strong management and leadership capabilities.

Core Responsibilities

- Identify, engage, and qualify potential M&A; targets that align with the group’s strategic and financial criteria.
- Establish, build, and maintain meaningful relationships with CEOs, business owners, senior executives, brokers, PE and VC funds, and other stakeholders.




- Nurture attractive M&A; opportunities and help progress targets through the deal sourcing pipeline.
- Identify current prospects using our proprietary database.
- Track activities and maintain relevant information in CRM.
- Review pre diligence materials on an as needed basis.
- Conduct assessments of target industries and competitive landscapes, identifying key trends, emerging players, and potential opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

- 2+ years of relevant experience in enterprise or mid market SaaS sales, corporate development, M&A; sourcing, business development, or investor relations.
- Exceptional business sense and the drive to work autonomously while thinking independently in a high performance environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong relationship building ability.
- Experience with deal sourcing and cold outreach, including cold calling, email, and other outreach channels.
- Ability to speak additional languages is highly valued.
- Self starter with the ability to take ownership and initiative, driving projects to completion with strong intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Solid understanding of company financial information and analysis of historical performance.
- Strong time management, attention to detail, organization, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.
- Adaptable and flexible, able to respond to changing priorities and work demands.
- Experience in the industrial sector is considered an asset.
- Ability to travel as needed.
