Job Opening Number: Job Requisition Number: 255Number of Positions: 1Job Type: Management and AdministrationDepartment: COMMUNITY SERVICESDivision: Fire & Emergency ServicesHiring Salary Range: $146,559 – $164,879 per annumMaximum of Salary Range: $183,199 per annumJob Grade: 009Job Status and Duration: Full Time (FT), Regular (R), vacancyHours of Work: 40 Hour work weekLocation: Fire Headquaters 425Posting Date: 04/02/2026Closing Date: 04/23/2026Area of Responsibility Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, as a member of the Fire and Emergency Services Senior Management Team, the Division Chief, Fire Prevention is responsible for development and implementation of Fire & Emergency Services Fire Prevention policies, programmes and practices to deliver the City’s and Office of the Fire Marshal service commitments and for the overall management of the Brampton Fire and Emergency Services Fire Prevention Division.Develop overall strategy for Fire Safety/Prevention programs and set strategic goals and objectives.Observe industry trends and monitor legislation.Implement fire safety initiatives using a team‑based approach.Ensure resources (people and equipment) meet current and predicted needs.Monitor policies, procedures and standards to comply with regulations and City standards.Provide staff leadership, coaching, guidance, performance reviews and recruitment.Implement monitoring and evaluation procedures to assess effectiveness of fire safety practices.Prepare, submit and monitor annual division budget; purchase required materials.Provide expertise, training,
lectures and represent Fire & Emergency Services on community committees.Build consensus and foster effective relationships with all customer and peer groups.Perform duties of Chief Fire official per Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 and related policy.Selection Criteria EducationDegree/Diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration, Fire Services Administration or Graduate of the Ontario Fire College.Formal education in inspections, enforcement and fire safety programs.Training in various specialty areas, such as Fire and Building Codes.ExperienceMinimum 10 years of progressively responsible fire service experience with a focus on fire prevention and enforcement.Management experience that includes the leadership of others in a unionized workplace.Mandatory RequirementsValid Class "G" Drivers Licence.Other Skills and AssetsNFPA 1031 level 1 and II preferred.NFPA 1033 and NFPA 1035 an asset.Exceptional presentation, demonstration, facilitation and speaking skills for communication delivery to diverse groups.Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage administrative responsibilities.Demonstrated ability to provide training for staff.Previous budget management experience is an asset.Trustworthiness and ability to demonstrate integrity.Proficiency on computer software, i.E. Microsoft Office.Additional Information The Position will undergo evaluation under the corporation’s Modernizing Job Evaluation project, which may result in a change to the rate of compensation.
