In keeping with the mission statement of the hospital and the patient service unit, the nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families.
- Effectively uses the nursing process
- Practices according to the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Hospital, and the patient service unit
- Provides appropriate learning experiences for the patient and family to promote or maintain wellness, and to achieve an optimal quality of life
- Is accountable for maintaining competence while developing the quality of her/his professional nursing practice
- The incumbent primary assignment will be Hematology case manager but may also work in the Oncology and Hematology Clinic after appropriate orientation
Additional Requirements
Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre‑screening and evaluation process that may include a written test, a practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates meeting essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.
Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by an external provider. Candidates must meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
Qualifications
- Vulnerable sector check (essential)
- Current Ontario registration with the CNO (essential)
- Current BCLS certificate (essential)
- Two (2) years of pediatric hematology/oncology experience (essential)
- Three (3) years of pediatric experience (essential)
- Case management experience (essential)
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills (essential)
- Demonstrated culturally sensitive approach to nursing care (essential)
- Demonstrated strong family‑centered care skills (essential)
- Bilingual (English/French) (essential)
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (essential)
