Who are we looking for?

Dragon Glass Capital is seeking a professional to fill the role of Operational Controller to support our team members in a full-time position based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is a unique opportunity to work in a hands-on environment, partnering closely with management. The ideal candidate is someone who understands the financial realities of operational businesses including work in progress (WIP), inventory management and high-volume invoicing.

The primary responsibilities for the Operational Controller are to oversee the accounting function, review and validate financial outputs and translate financial data into meaningful insights.

Key Tasks and Duties

Financial Oversight & Leadership

- Provide overall leadership and direction for the accounting and finance function.
- Supervise and mentor the Bookkeeper and AR team, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to policies.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Act as a financial partner to operations and leadership, ensuring alignment between financial reporting and operational realities.

Operational Accounting & Controls

- Oversee accounting for work in progress (WIP), including proper revenue recognition and job costing.




- Ensure accurate tracking and valuation of inventory, including reconciliation to physical counts where applicable.
- Monitor and validate high-volume invoicing processes to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Review operational metrics and financial drivers to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

Financial Reporting & Review

- Review monthly financials for accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee and review financial statements and higher-level management reporting.
- Ensure financial statements comply with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Analyze variances between actual results, budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
- Prepare and present clear financial insights and recommendations to the management group.

Accounts Receivable & Cash Flow

- Oversee AR reporting and collections strategy to support solid cash flow.
- Monitor aging, customer disputes, and credit risk.
- Partner with operations and sales to resolve billing and collection issues efficiently.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
- Lead or support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting process.
- Develop financial models and scenario analysis to support strategic decisions.
- Monitor performance against budget and provide proactive guidance to management.




- Compliance & External Coordination
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate filings, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
- Support audits, reviews, and other external reporting requests.

Education and Experience

- University degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
- Progressive accounting or financial experience, ideally in an operational or service-based workplace
- Demonstrated experience with WIP accounting, inventory and high-volume invoicing
- Prior experience leading or supervising accounting staff
- Strong understanding of operational workflows and how they impact financial results
