Principal Publication Strategist, Medical Writing

The Principal Publication Strategist is responsible for leading scientific disclosure and publication planning and strategy and serving as a trusted strategic advisor to sponsor teams. The role is accountable for shaping, defending, and influencing publication plans and disclosure strategy across assets, therapeutic areas, and phases of development, ensuring that scientific data are communicated in a timely, ethical, and strategically aligned manner.

Scientific Disclosure & Publication Strategy Development

- Lead the development, maintenance, and evolution of integrated publication plans and scientific disclosure strategies across the product lifecycle.
- Develop and oversee publication plans that define strategic objectives, key scientific messages, target audiences, deliverable types, and communication channels.
- Provide strategic direction on publication planning, timing, sequencing, and prioritization to maximize scientific impact and alignment with overall asset and evidence strategy.
- Identify gaps, risks, and emerging opportunities within publication plans and broader scientific disclosure activities and proactively recommend strategic solutions.
- Ensure publication plans and disclosure strategies are forward‑looking, data‑driven, compliant, and adaptable to evolving evidence and external factors.

Strategic Advisory & Influence

- Serve as a primary strategic advisor to sponsor Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and related cross‑functional teams on scientific disclosure and publication planning.
- Act as a thought partner to sponsor leadership, providing guidance that informs decision‑making rather than facilitating discussions or documenting outcomes.
- Confidently present, defend, and refine publication plans and disclosure strategies with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Integrate diverse and sometimes conflicting inputs into a cohesive, compliant, and actionable publication plans that aligns with sponsor objectives.
- Influence cross‑functional decision‑making across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, HEOR, and Commercial functions, as appropriate.

Scientific, Competitive & Industry Expertise

- Maintain deep expertise in publication standards and industry guidance, including Good Publication Practice (GPP), ICMJE requirements, authorship standards, and transparency obligations.




- Monitor competitor disclosure and publication activity, journal trends, and congress landscapes within assigned therapeutic areas.
- Assess external scientific and competitive environments to inform publication planning and disclosure strategy recommendations.
- Ensure all publication plans and strategies uphold scientific integrity, ethical principles, and regulatory expectations.

Collaboration & Execution Oversight

- Partner closely with Syneos Health (and sponsor, if applicable) medical writers, publication managers, and external vendors to ensure execution of publication plans aligns with the approved strategy.
- Provide strategic oversight and advisory input during execution of publication plans, ensuring alignment with approved strategy.
- Review key deliverables (e.g., publication plans, strategic summaries, messaging frameworks) to ensure alignment with approved publication and disclosure strategies.
- Support issue resolution and strategic decision‑making during execution when challenges or changes arise.

Organizational & Client Contribution

- Serve as the primary strategic publication planning and scientific disclosure contact for the assigned sponsor relationship.
- Contribute publication planning and strategic expertise to additional sponsor engagements or internal Syneos Health initiatives as needed.
- Support business development efforts by providing publication planning and scientific disclosure strategy expertise for proposals and client discussions.
- Contribute to the advancement of Syneos Health’s scientific communications and publication planning capabilities through thought leadership and best practices.
- Act as a senior subject matter expert and internal resource for scientific disclosure strategy and publication planning.

Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $210,900.00

The Principal Publication Strategist partners with sponsor aligned and internal Syneos Health teams to provide strategic leadership across scientific disclosure and publication activities. The role includes responsibility for publication planning and extends beyond traditional plan development to encompass upstream scientific disclosure strategy, competitive landscape assessment, and advisory support to guide evidence generation, prioritization, and dissemination decisions across the product lifecycle. This role requires strong independent judgment and the ability to influence without authority. The Principal Publication Strategist acts as a strategic partner by challenging assumptions, integrating cross‑functional perspectives, and providing clear, defensible recommendations while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, ethical guidelines, and sponsor expectations.
