Role Summary

The Principal, Infrastructure Investments, plays a leadership role in analyzing investment opportunities across a variety of companies, performing due diligence processes, building financial models to evaluate investments, negotiating terms, executing transactions and managing the investment portfolio. CPP Investments’ Infrastructure division directly invests in large‑scale assets that provide defensive long‑term returns, substantial inflation protection and possess minimal substitution risks. The division typically targets investments in regulated utilities, transportation, telecommunication, datacenters and energy sectors with an equity investment size from $500 million up to several billion dollars. The division completed its first active investment in 2006, currently possesses more than 30 direct investments valued at approximately $60 billion and employs over 50 professionals across 6 global offices.

Accountabilities

- Contribute to setting the relevant investment strategy; help to organise deal pipeline,



provide investment screening support and execute principal transactions.
- Lead research, analysis and evaluation of a variety of investment opportunities including managing the overall evaluation process.
- Build working relationships with colleagues and leaders across the firm, company management teams and investment partners, and third‑party advisors.
- Perform and manage detailed due diligence processes (including scoping and hiring third‑party advisors).
- Manage assets and develop value‑creation plans by analysing board materials and collaborating with management teams regarding requests for information and initiative status.
- Oversee development of complex financial models to assist in investment evaluation, structuring and financing.
- Lead the negotiation and execution of agreements and other transaction‑related documents.
- Develop detailed investment committee recommendations and take a major role in both presenting and answering challenging technical questions.
- Oversee and manage multiple external parties (lawyers, accountants, tax and commercial advisors etc.) and begin to build new relationships with advisors/partners to help with deal sourcing.
- Assist in the monitoring of existing portfolio companies.
- Oversee and mentor junior members of the team, be able to troubleshoot issues/questions and to offer guidance and support.

Qualifications





- 7–10 years of relevant work experience; a combination of buy‑side and sell‑side experience would be an asset.
- An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset.
- Infrastructure or energy sector expertise is desirable but not mandatory.
- Significant relationship‑management experience including primary responsibility for managing relationships with portfolio companies and other external stakeholders.
- Strong research, analytical, financial modelling, valuation, problem‑solving skills and ability to think creatively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience managing successful negotiations with multiple stakeholders and executing a wide range of agreements.
