National Medical Scientific Liaison - Ophthalmology

Territory: Canada

Reporting to the Medical Scientific Liaison Manager, General and Specialty Medicine.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Engage in non‑promotional, peer‑to‑peer exchange of medical and scientific information with scientific leaders and key decision makers, within the bounds of local laws, regulations, and industry codes.
- Gain deep insights into disease, therapeutic area, healthcare needs, data gaps, and local geographic challenges.
- Represent Medical Affairs at local or regional non‑promotional medical events (e.g., congresses, symposia), coordinating pre‑event scientific information and providing post‑event scientific summaries.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for medical, scientific, pipeline, or marketed product information using approved scientific materials.
- Respond one‑to‑one to requests regarding company research and grant activities by directing scientific leaders or key decision makers to appropriate company resources (grants, sponsored clinical trials, investigator study programs, outcomes research).
- Participate in Scientific Advisory Board Meetings or Expert Input Forums when a defined role exists.
- Participate in the development of Medical Affairs plans and implement activities outlined in those plans.




- Support the identification of potential study investigators for sponsored studies at the request of Global Clinical Trials Organization or Center for Observational and Real‑World Research personnel.

Qualifications

- Hold a pharmacy degree (Bachelor’s or Doctorate) or a PhD in Health Sciences (preferably disease related) or a Doctorate in Medicine.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Medical Scientific Liaison in the industry.
- Knowledge of the ophthalmology therapeutic area (basic and clinical literature) is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to acquire and maintain product, disease, and competitor knowledge.
- Fluency in French is required.
- Robust interpersonal skills.
- Budget management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of company policies, procedures, industry standards, laws, and regulations.
- Ability to analyze and understand the local community of practice.
- Ability to comprehend and integrate complex scientific concepts.
- Advanced knowledge of Office technology and related software.
- Advanced analysis, planning, implementation, and control skills.
- Advanced negotiation, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Advanced project management skills.
- Candidates must be based in Ontario or Quebec.
