ERM is hiring a Field Biologist to conduct wildlife surveys in British Columbia. This part‑time, limited‑term role (12 weeks, variable schedule) requires flexibility and responsiveness to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project.
Responsibilities
- Field biologist position to conduct surveys for projects in British Columbia.
- Wildlife (particularly avian) data collection.
- Navigating remote locations with GPS, compass, and maps.
- Daily reporting and survey report compilation.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
- Compliance with ERM’s rigorous health and safety programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Biology, or related field.
- 5+ years of demonstrated avian biology experience.
- Ability to identify birds in British Columbia by sight and sound.
- Familiarity with survey protocols for songbirds, common nighthawk, and short‑eared owl.
- Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols.
- Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.
- Working knowledge of GPS technologies and map interpretation skills.
- Effective communication, time management, and organization skills.
- Experience recording/writing detailed technical data.
- Able to multi‑task,
maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel to sites that require overnight stays, as needed, to support fieldwork at sites outside of immediate vicinity.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
Pay Transparency
For the Field Biologist position, we anticipate an annual base pay of $76,819–$98,928 (CAD), $36.93/hr–$47.56/hr. This role is limited‑term, non‑exempt. Pay is based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue‑based metrics, and business or organizational needs. Employees may be eligible for bonus pay depending on role; casual and fixed‑term/Flexforce employees are not bonus eligible.
Benefits
- Benefits eligibility is limited to regular employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Fixed‑term employees (including Flexforce) scheduled for 20 hours or more are eligible for a limited benefits package. Casual employees are not benefits eligible.
