CIMA+ continues to grow and expand itsEarth and Environment team inWestern Canada.Environment West teamis seeking aIntermediate/Senior Environmental Planner to support projects inAlbertaand British Columbia. The successful candidate will join our team of biologists,urbanplanners,engineeringprofessionals, and field technicians, contributingexpertiseinpolicy review,naturalenvironmentreporting, project planning, and permittingfora wide variety of projects encompassingdiverse sectors including energy, transportation, and land development for both public and private clients.
The scope includes navigating federal and provincial environmental regulatory processes,providingstrategicinput to client teamsonproject design,policy review and implementation,and preparing ormanaging the preparation of information related to potential environmental effects ofprojectsin British-Columbia andAlberta.
In addition, this role will support strengthening our relationships with existing clients by working collaboratively onproject teams,mentoring young professionals,developingordelivering environmental training, and proposing newand innovativeways to better meet ourclients’ needs.
Applicantsmustbe knowledgeable of relevantenvironmentalstandards, policies,practicesand procedures, andhave theability toexercise independent judgment in analysis and problem solving forhighly complex, multi-disciplinary,andlargescopeprojects.
This role offers the opportunity toparticipatein our hybrid work model, which includes flexible hours, remote work options, and access toour officeslocatedinCalgary ,Edmonton , orVancouver .
The position will involve both office-based responsibilities as well asoccasionalseasonal fieldwork. Officework includespolicy review, strategic advice,preparing proposals, technical reportsreview, and environmentalstudyreview.
Demonstratedexpertiseinsupportinglarge energy projects, including electricity transmissionand distribution,renewable energy, andpower generation infrastructurewould be an asset.
This role offers room for professional growth and advancement, including opportunities to develop project and team management skills.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Strategically advising project teams on internal recommendation documents, includingoverall environmental strategy.
- Work with clients to find practical solutions that minimizes impacts to the natural environmentwhile meeting project goals.
- Review projects underapplicablemunicipal, provincial, and federal legislationin British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
- Completeand/or reviewrequests for authorizations and permits.
- Prepare and/or provide senior review ofenvironmental impact evaluation statements, design ecological studies, and author other technical documents.
- Developand/or reviewappropriate avoidanceand mitigation measures.
- Ensurethat project work is consistent withCIMA’s Earth & Environmentprocesses.
- Terrestrial fieldwork may also
Qualifications
- Minimum of8years of experiencefocused on terrestrial ecologyand/or environmental planning, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Degree or diploma,preferably at the graduate level,in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies,Planning,oradditionalyears’ experience.
- Appropriate professional designation inAlberta and/orBritish Columbia
- Strong knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and policiesin British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
- Experience working with environmental regulators and multidisciplinary teams on complex multi-year projects.
- Experience predicting, defining, and managing the environmental risks of large-scale capital projects and programs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Project management courses and certification will be considered a strong asset.
