Overview
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is implementing minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) to enhance nursing practice and quality of care. In BC, mNPRs are developed with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. Salary range: CAD $49.20/Hr. - CAD $63.47/Hr.
Role: Nurse Clinician/Clinical Resource Nurse (Mental Health/Psychiatry/Continuing Care) with the Adult Mental Health team in North Vancouver, BC. The role requires leadership and application of specialized theory and knowledge relating to designated patient populations to promote safe, ethical and high-quality patient care. The nurse acts as a clinical resource, provides consultation and education to the interdisciplinary care team, and may participate in direct patient care and crisis intervention as needed.

About The North Shore Adult Community Mental Health Team
The Adult Community Mental Health team (located at the HOpe Centre) provides specialized, community-based services for adults with serious or persistent mental illness. Services are delivered through in-office appointments, home visits and community outreach by a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals.
About The HOpe Centre
The HOpe Centre on the Lions Gate Hospital campus is the focal point for mental health services on the North Shore,
hosting two mental health inpatient units and a range of outpatient services.
Education & Experience
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of post-basic specialty nursing certificate/program if applicable and three (3) years' recent, related experience in the designated specialized clinical area including crisis intervention experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for local area travel may be required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and work direction.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Comprehensive knowledge of gerontology, end-of-life issues and nursing standards as applicable.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental disorders, addiction and concurrent disorders; recovery model and psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, clinical practice standards/guidelines and care pathways.
- Knowledge of theories of family dynamics and collaboration with other health care disciplines.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work; effective written and oral communication; conflict resolution; adaptability to recent or unexpected events.
- Ability to lead change and support staff through transitions; lead projects or initiatives; apply evidence-informed practice.
- Ability to develop and deliver educational programs and materials for staff, patients, clients, residents and families.
- Promotes a supportive learning environment and continuous quality improvement.
- Knowledge of basic research concepts and data analyses; CPR skills; computer literacy to operate client care systems and standard software.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Hours
The hours of work, days off, and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
Additional Information
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers in publicly-funded facilities are required to report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. New hires will provide this information as part of onboarding.
