Responsibilities
- Monitor wires, online chatter, competitors, and other sources of information for emerging news
- Respond to breaking news, alert the team and broader newsroom
- Write and edit breaking news for all digital platforms
- Distribute breaking news alerts on CTV News and third-party platforms, publish banners
- Use alternative story formats to deliver breaking news updates as they emerge, such as packages that incorporate livestreams, live blogs, embeds
- Work closely with colleagues in the national and local newsrooms to tell breaking news stories
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and execute strategy for major news events
Critical Qualifications
- Has a degree in Journalism
- Has at least 3 years’ experience in a digital news environment
- Gets it fast, but more importantly, gets it right
- Excellent news judgment and the ability to pivot to emerging stories
- Excellent writing and editing skills, plus advanced knowledge of CP Style Guide
- Familiar with tools such as Content Management Systems, Chartbeat, Adobe Analytics, Comscore, with ideas about others to consider
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
