Assisted Living and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, services for the homeless, Continuing Care and other social-based programs. The Ministry supports Albertans through a person‑centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.
Are you a regulated health‑care professional with strong clinical leadership skills and a passion for supporting individuals with complex medical needs? Disability Services is seeking a highly skilled Health Care Coordinator to oversee operations in a 24‑hour care home, coordinating medical supports for predominantly senior residents.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring high‑quality, person‑centered care for residents with significant medical and developmental needs. You will be responsible for operational oversight, clinical practice, staffing management, and maintaining compliance with health and safety standards. This position requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration skills, the ability to respond to emergencies,
and the capacity to lead staff through complex medical and operational situations such as outbreaks, critical incidents, and evolving medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership
- Provide clinical guidance to nursing staff and Health Care Aide (HCA), including decision‑making during medical concerns and emergencies.
- Monitor care practices, ensure resident safety, and liaise with hospitals and medical professionals.
- Inform policy and procedures at Direct Operations Sites.
- Conduct quality assurance activities.
- Staffing & Scheduling
- Oversee schedules for nursing and support staff.
- Ensure the required clinical supervision is available to sites.
- Human Resource Management
- Supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations, and provide feedback.
- Support performance management and complete required documentation (e.g., WCB).
- Develop curriculum and staff training.
- Financial Oversight
- Approve timesheets and monitor staffing resources.
- Ensure the required medical equipment and supplies are available.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate with residents, families, and guardians regarding care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standard:
- Degree related to the position assignment and three (3)
years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college under the Health Professions Act.
- Equivalency: Diploma related to the position assignment and five (5) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college under the Health Professions Act.
Assets
- Licensed Registered Nurse preferred.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working in residential or 24‑hour care settings supporting medically fragile individuals.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and outbreak management protocols.
- Strong clinical assessment skills with the ability to make sound decisions in high‑pressure situations.
- Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Skilled in conflict resolution, mediation, and performance management support.
- Familiarity with health‑care documentation systems, client tracking software, and data integrity practices.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to travel within Alberta as needed.
Must be currently registered and in valuable standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) and have clearly stated this within your cover letter and resume.
Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
Must be able to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada. A current work visa is required.
