About the Project:

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Overview:

The Environmental and Sustainability Team is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Environmental Co‑op Student to support sustainability framework, environmental management, monitoring, compliance, and Indigenous engagement for the ECWE project.

The ideal candidate is passionate about environmental protection and community-centered project development.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Support

- Assist with field surveys (vegetation, wildlife, watercourse assessments, erosion and sediment control measures).
- Collect, analyze, and organize environmental data.
- Support development of environmental mitigation and monitoring measures.

Indigenous Relations & Third-Party Engagement Support

- Assist with preparing materials for meetings, taking meeting minutes, engagement sessions, and workshops with internal and external stakeholders including Indigenous communities.
- Support the integration of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) into environmental planning, where appropriate.
- Collaborate with Indigenous Relations specialists to ensure respectful and culturally informed communication practices.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

- Help maintain environmental permits, approvals logs, and compliance tracking systems.
- Support preparing environmental briefing notes, reports, and regulatory submissions.




- Compile environmental data and assist in maintaining documentation repositories.

Cross‑Functional Project Support

- Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary coordination sessions.
- Support environmental communications, presentations, and internal updates.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, environmental specialists, planners, community and Indigenous engagement teams.

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program in:
- Environmental Science / Studies
- Environmental Engineering
- Indigenous Studies (with environmental/sustainability focus)
- Or a related field
- Knowledge of, experience with, or connection to Indigenous communities is a strong asset .
- Familiarity with ENVISION certification and Toronto Green Standard is a great asset.
- Cultural awareness and willingness to learn about Indigenous rights, protocols, and perspectives.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and Transit Project Assessment Process are considered greats assets.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both outdoors and in office settings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; GIS experience is an advantage.

This position is only open to students enrolled in an approved Co‑op program at a recognized Ontario post‑secondary institution. Proof of enrollment will be required.
