The Role

The Small Business Manager, Credit Risk exercises sound credit judgment and provides quality underwriting decisions. The incumbent adheres to Bank policy, established exception authorities, and balances production objectives.

ACE reviews credit applications requiring an exception for Retail Branches, Private Banking, Indirect Mortgage, and Indirect Auto channels, and undertakes underwriting for the Small Business (Branch, Health Care & Professional Banking, and Agriculture) channel.

The incumbent contributes to the success of the Adjudication Centre of Expertise / Global Operations in Canada, ensuring individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed to support the team’s business strategies and objectives and that all activities follow governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

- Effectively analyze credit submissions, financial disclosures and pertinent documentation within risk tolerances.
- Apply advanced credit judgment using the 5 C’s of credit and ensure consistent application of policies and processes.
- Adjudicate within established limits and exception authority and present quality recommendations on requests above established limits.
- Calculate financial ratios, identify appropriate credit conditions and security while understanding business and economic trends.
- Analyze credit reviews and apply corrective action where appropriate.
- Maintain professional, respectful and value‑added partner interactions.
- Provide recommendations, alternative solutions, and restructuring credit requests, coaching partners as required.
- Act with a sense of urgency to meet partner requests and customer expectations.
- Deliver against established ACE Service Level Agreement targets.
- Contribute to the growth and quality of the Small Business Credit portfolio.




- Clearly identify risks and exceptions using strong rationale and associated mitigants to support the decision.
- Operate within the Bank’s risk appetite and culture in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
- Maintain acceptable application review ratings from internal quality assurance and audit.

Qualifications

- Comprehensive knowledge of the Bank’s Small Business products and services.
- Expert understanding of the Bank lending policies and procedures, financial analysis, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral and security documentation and registration.
- Intermediate accounting and financial statement analysis skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑resolution skills.
- Strong team player and skillful at developing harmonious relationships with unit team members and stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal, to produce informative, concise, and professional credit replies, presentations and correspondence (Bilingual preferred).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently to meet a high‑volume work environment.
