Discovery Lab Facilitator
The London Children’s Museum is looking for a highly creative, organized, enthusiastic, and engaging Discovery Lab Facilitator to join our Visitor Experiences Team. The role ensures visitors have positive and memorable STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) experiences within the Discovery Lab exhibit at 100 Kellogg Lane. In this interdisciplinary exhibit, visitors take part in woodworking, coding, making, crafting, designing, experimenting, and hacking.
The facilitator will create a safe, welcoming environment, maintain cleanliness and organization, support day‑to‑day operations, and handle equipment and tool safety. This includes managing tool check‑in/out, inventory, and ensuring an inclusive atmosphere for all visitors.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging hands‑on STEAM-based programs, including public programs and workshops, for children and families within the Discovery Lab exhibit
- Model a maker mindset by enthusiastically and thoughtfully engaging families in STEAM-based programs that encourage creativity, curiosity, and critical‑thinking skills
- Create a safe and welcoming environment by maintaining Discovery Lab cleanliness, tidiness, and overall organization
- Support day‑to‑day operations of the Discovery Lab, including program facilitation, equipment maintenance, checking in and out tools, inventorying, and cleaning
- Ensure Discovery Lab programs and experiences are secure, accessible, and inclusive
- Provide technical support and assist visitors and volunteers in the safe operation of tools and specialised equipment
- Assist with the maintenance and use of specialised equipment,
including robotics, hand tools, etc.
- Provide exceptional visitor experience and customer service
- Be a helpful, positive, and engaged member of the London Children’s Museum team
- Other duties as required
Skills
- Experience in STEAM programming, makerspace activities, basic coding, and/or art‑based programming
- Ability to learn and use different tools and hardware (e.g., sewing machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, Makita kits, etc.)
- Knowledge of common makerspace technologies (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Micro:bit, Makey Makey, etc.)
- Experience working with children and families
- Enthusiasm for the experiential learning philosophy practiced by the London Children’s Museum and a desire to work in a distinctly child‑centred environment
- Highly organised with excellent time‑management skills
- Safety‑oriented; child & infant first aid and CPR training are considered an asset
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and decision‑making
- Thrives in a fast‑paced environment where problem‑solving and flexibility are required
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
Position Requirements
- Valid vulnerable sector screening (police check)
- Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
- Eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee protection status)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada following provincial legislation and regulations
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings
Compensation: $18.00/hour
Part‑time seasonal contract, starting May 25, 2026, and ending September 7, 2026 (with opportunity for extension); 20–37.5 hours weekly; weekday, weekend and evening shifts available.
