Step into a high-impact finance leadership role within a growing real estate platform where you can own financial reporting, lead a team, and gain exposure to both strategic transactions and hands-on accounting!

Your New Employer

Our client is a privately held real estate, construction, and operating platform with deep roots in Atlantic Canada. The business operates across a diversified portfolio that includes development projects, multi-family construction, income-producing properties, and other operating businesses, all supported by a multi-entity corporate structure.

The organization offers a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with a steady pipeline of development and operational activities. Finance plays a central role in supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic decision-making, creating an chance for someone who enjoys working in a setting that combines complexity, variety, and long-term growth.

Your New Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Corporate Controller will take ownership of financial reporting and corporate accounting across a group of approximately 20 entities. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, coordinating the year-end process, and working closely with external accounting and tax advisors.

The position combines core controllership responsibilities with exposure to more strategic initiatives. On one hand, the Controller will oversee intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and multi-entity financial reporting, ensuring strong processes and controls are in place across the organization. On the other hand, the role will provide exposure to acquisitions, refinancing, corporate reorganizations, and broader finance initiatives alongside the CFO.

A key component of the role is leadership.

The Controller will oversee a core team of approximately four direct reports within a broader finance group of seven, providing guidance, reviewing work, and supporting the development of junior team members. At the same time, this is a hands‑on role where the successful candidate will remain closely involved in the detail, particularly around financial reporting, year‑end deliverables, and complex accounting matters. This role offers a unique balance of high‑level and foundational work. Some days will involve supporting large real estate transactions or strategic initiatives, while others will require preparing or reviewing working papers and ensuring compliance across smaller entities. The ideal candidate will be someone who embraces that variety and is comfortable contributing wherever needed.

What Sets You Apart

The successful candidate will bring a CPA designation and strong experience in financial reporting, controllership, or corporate accounting in a multi‑entity environment. Candidates coming from public accounting at the Manager or Senior Manager level will also be considered, particularly those with exposure to real estate or similarly structured clients.

You will have a strong technical foundation in ASPE and/or IFRS, along with experience managing year‑end processes, working with external auditors, and supporting tax compliance requirements. Experience with intercompany accounting, consolidations, and complex entity structures will be important for success in this role.

Equally important is your mindset and approach.

You are someone who is hands‑on, practical, and willing to roll up your sleeves. You are comfortable balancing strategic and routine work, and you bring a low‑ego, team‑oriented approach to leadership. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams will be key in this environment.

Experience in real estate, construction, or property management is highly preferred, along with familiarity with systems such as Yardi, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to step into a true “right hand to the CFO” role within a growing and entrepreneurial organization.
