Role Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
Employment Details
This is a fixed‑term post of 12 months from August 2026 to July 2027. 40 hours per week. The post will be based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The role is for doctors who have completed 2–3 years of training, including CMT/IMT or FY2, and are considering a career in Cardiology.
Key Responsibilities
- Work on general Cardiology wards and Coronary Care Unit, taking part in ward rounds and routine care of Cardiology patients.
- Attend Cardiology out‑patient clinics and review in‑patient referrals with the on‑call consultant and SpR.
- Help with teaching of undergraduates and specialist nurses, and attend departmental educational meetings.
- Undertake a clinical audit/QIP project and/or research project.
- Participate in the Medical Mid Tier daytime and on‑call rota (50% rota banding).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Completed UK foundation programme within 3.5 years of the advertised post start date.
- Completed CMT/IMT or FY2 and are considering a career in Cardiology.
- Suitable for trainees who wish to start training in echocardiography.
- If you have not undertaken a UK foundation programme within 3.5 years, you may be asked to submit a Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST).
- CREST form must be completed by a consultant who has worked with you for a minimum continuous period of three months whole‑time equivalent wholly within the 3.5 years prior to the advertised post start date.
