We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join the team in our Dartmouth Head Office. This is an in‑office, full‑time, permanent position, Monday to Friday, 8am‑5pm.
Reporting to the HR Manager, this position requires a strong attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of producing high‑quality work within defined timelines. The ideal candidate will hold a Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi‑weekly payroll for both hourly and salaried employees across multiple provinces, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Partner with Human Resources to set up new hires, process terminations, and coordinate other ongoing bi‑weekly payroll changes, including wage adjustments, position changes, and new earning or deductions codes.
- Review, monitor, and validate time entries, manual timesheets, and other payroll documentation; support managers with time entry and attendance tracking as needed.
- Calculate, track, and remit statutory and payroll‑related deductions, including source deductions, WCB premiums, and employee benefit contributions.
- Generate and maintain a range of standard and ad hoc payroll reports for internal use and compliance purposes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records in both electronic and paper formats.
- Prepare, issue,
and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) and year‑end reporting, including T4 and Releve 1 slips.
- Respond to inquiries from employees, CRA, and Service Canada.
Requirements:
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or comparable training is preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of hands‑on payroll experience in a medium to large size enterprise.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and best practices across multiple provinces, plus basic accounting knowledge.
- Experience with payroll systems; Payworks software experience strongly preferred.
- High level of computer skills with above‑average capability in Microsoft Excel / Microsoft suite.
- Able to work with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Excellent data entry accuracy and attention to detail. Highly organized and deadline driven.
- Good interpersonal skills for communicating with both managers and staff.
- Bilingualism (English/French) would be considered an asset.
