As a Sr Opto-Mechanical Engineer / Physicist at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc., you play a key role in the design, development and delivery of cutting-edge optical sensor solutions required for advanced semiconductor fabrication. In this role, you will be part of the Advanced Development Team, reporting to the Principal Optical Architect.

You Will Make an Impact By

- Understanding the product requirements and how these relate to material’s thermo-mechanical properties and mechanical design.
- Creating opto-mechanical designs, building prototypes, and validating designs for new products.
- Developing, implementing, and documenting procedures, methods and results.
- Using statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions.
- Analyzing, compiling, and presenting test results to project team.
- Leveraging thermo-mechanical models and testing to optimize system opto-mechanical performance.
- Directing cross-functional teams in overall system development and troubleshooting.
- Continuously evaluating processes and procedures and suggesting improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
- Handling aggressive deadlines with agility and a results-driven approach.

Skills You Bring

- Master's degree, or advanced degree equivalent in the field of Physics, Applied physics, or Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of related experience.
- Experience with building and validating high-precision opto-mechanical systems.
- Experience with thermo-mechanical modeling and related tools (Ansys FEA and thermal modeling preferred).
- Experience with statistical data analysis.




- Experience with equipment automation is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability for hands‑on work and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks/CAD tools.

Preferred Skills

- Prior experience with GitHub, Python, and statistical tools such as JMP.
- Experience with fiber‑optic technology development is preferred.
- Knowledge of silicon wafer fabrication processes such as plasma-assisted deposition and etch is a plus.
- EIT or P.Eng designation preferred. Final job title will be aligned with EGBC requirements.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
- Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.
- Adaptable and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
- Excellent time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.

Compensation

Salary Pay Range: $90,000 - $125,000 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
