Compensation Details

Underwriter 21: Salaries typically range from $180,000 to $200,000 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a 25% performance‑based incentive.

Location

- Hybrid work environment: employees are required to work in the office 2 days per week, increasing to 3 days a week in September 2026 (subject to change).
- Role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs in Toronto or Montreal.
- Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Team Overview

EDC’s Structured and Project Finance Team (SPF) is a leader in global project and infrastructure finance. Since its establishment in 1995, the SPF team has successfully closed over 700 financing transactions worldwide, totaling more than USD 59 billion. The team provides thought leadership to internal and government stakeholders on major critical minerals, energy transition, and trade‑enabling infrastructure projects.

Transaction Execution

What you will be doing:

- Originate, structure, close, and advise on complex project finance transactions, including those with significant financial/non‑financial risks, unique sectors, and stakeholder negotiations.




- Conduct due diligence and assess all project and transaction risks, negotiate mitigants and financial terms, and establish appropriate transaction pricing.
- Direct or conduct the financial analysis of project finance transactions using detailed cash‑flow models.
- Manage external advisors and counterparties as required.
- Make credit recommendations and obtain all required approvals.
- Approve certain asset‑management activities in accordance with applicable delegation of authority.
- Negotiate changes or develop documentation in collaboration with legal counsel and transaction counterparties.
- Oversee the work of a broader deal team, including Associates, Project Finance Managers and internal advisors; provide leadership, coaching, training and mentorship.

Client Engagement & Portfolio Management

- Engage professionally with internal and external stakeholders during transaction execution.
- Manage a portfolio of assets throughout the life of transactions.
- Track market developments and opportunities, prepare financing proposals, and conduct market‑scanning exercises to identify market insights and trends.
- Lead executive briefings on portfolio, with limited guidance from Principal or Director.
- Support the Director in prospecting new opportunities and engaging in business development.

What We Are Looking For

- Minimum 10 years of structured & project financing or related experience.
- Expert sector and financing knowledge with a proven track record of closing transactions in one or more sectors suitable for project financing (energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure, or digital infrastructure).
- MBA graduate / Master’s degree with a focus on finance, international business, or a related field, or equivalent education and related work experience.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

- Strong credit and financial analysis skills,



knowledge of market‑standard terms and conditions for project finance transactions, and ability to lead and advise on complex/irregular scenarios.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and spreadsheet applications.
- Knowledge of credit and capital markets.

Sectoral & Business Knowledge

- Deep understanding of energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure, or digital infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with Canadian and/or international business and banking practices.
- Knowledge of general business practices, international business issues, and economics.

Interpersonal Skills

- Personal agility.
- Excellent communication skills in English (written, verbal, presentation).
- Customer focus and ability to build strong customer relationships.
- Strong negotiation, diplomacy, and persuasion abilities.

What Will Make You Stand Out

- Experience in transaction origination, including presenting proposals to clients and leading complex transactions through credit approval processes.
- Professional designation such as CFA.
- Ability to communicate in both French and English, and in other key international trading market languages.
