The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. The Municipal Group of Companies is a recognized CPA Pre-Approved Training Office in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our accounting department, based out of Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform product costing and variance analysis for multiple manufacturing operations, ensuring accurate costing, inventory valuation, and reporting of production results.
- Analyze and explain cost variances, including materials, production, usage, purchase price, and inventory variances.
- Prepare accurate and timely journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of the monthly and annual close process.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Work closely with operations to understand production activity, cost drivers, and changes in input costs.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal controls related to inventory, costing, and production reporting.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.




- Provide timely and professional service to internal stakeholders across operations and finance.
- Provide support and guidance to junior staff as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce or Business Administration.
- 3+ years of related experience, preferably with exposure to manufacturing and construction.
- Experience with product costing, variance analysis or inventory accounting is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Robust organizational and communication skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.
