Senior IT Business Analyst (Senior Business Systems Analyst)
Europ Assistance Canada, part of Generali Group ( is looking for an Senir IT Business Analyst (Sr. Business Systems Analyst) to join our IT team in Canada, who can contribute to the building of local Canadian operations.
Europ Assistance ( is a global company, active in over 200 countries and territories in the delivery of our products and services.
The Canadian business unit will strategically focus its efforts on the Travel Insurance industry with the distribution of product offerings and associated service solutions to key stakeholders for their customers traveling abroad or with in Canada.
This role will report into the Head of IT and is based in Toronto, with the working environment being a mix of in-office and remote work, though always in close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
The Senior IT Business Analyst (Sr. Business Systems Analyst) is responsible for analyzing business requirements, processes, and systems to ensure IT solutions align with the needs of the business. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders across the organization to gather requirements, define system specifications, and assist in the development and implementation of IT projects. The Sr. IT BA has a high visibility role with leadership and requires interpersonal skills to drive consensus across stakeholders. The role serves as a bridge between the business and technical teams, ensuring technology is used effectively to meet business goals.
Responsibilities Include:
- Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and understand business needs and objectives.
- Elicit, document, and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements for IT projects.
- Develop detailed business and technical requirements documentation, use cases, user stories, and process flows.
- Analysis & Documentation: Conduct thorough business analysis to identify problems, opportunities, and areas for improvement within business systems and processes.
- Create and maintain documentation for system specifications, workflows, and business rules.
- Work with an Agile team supporting backlog refinement, sprint planning, and story decomposition.
- Write detailed technical user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
- Analyze data and trends to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
- Solution Design and Validation: Work closely with IT Architecture team to design technology solutions that meet business requirements.
- Assist in the selection, evaluation, and implementation of software tools or systems.
- Validate solutions by testing and ensuring they meet business requirements and functional specifications.
- Collaborate with developers on upstream/downstream technical details alignment, data modeling, API design, payload standards, and error handling models.
- Produce high-quality artifacts including functional specifications, sequence diagrams, data mapping documents, integration flows, and non-functional requirements (NFRs).
- Support system design discussions with architecture and engineering teams.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization or automation to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Recommend changes or improvements to business systems and processes that enhance productivity and user experience.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the main point of contact between business users and the IT team.
- Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure project alignment and understanding.
- Provide regular updates to project teams and business leadership on progress, risks, and issues.
- Project Management Support: Support project managers in planning, execution, and monitoring of IT projects.
- Assist in preparing project plans, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure timely project delivery.
- Help manage scope, budget, and stakeholder expectations for IT projects.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop test plans, scenarios, and scripts for system testing.
- Coordinate and support user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
- Identify, document, and resolve issues and defects in collaboration with development teams.
- Support UAT and production incident analysis.
- Training and Support: Assist in the creation of user manuals, training materials, and system documentation.
- Provide training to business users on new systems or processes.
- Support and troubleshoot for business users post-implementation.
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- University or College Degree in the field of Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or equivalent in the combination of education and qualified experience.
- CBAP Certification required.
- 3-5 years Insurance industry experience required.
- 10+ years of experience in business systems analysis, IT systems, or software development projects.
- 5+ years of experience working on API platforms and Data sharing.
- 5+ years of experience working in Agile delivery teams.
- 3+ years of experience with REST APIs and JSON.
- 5+ years of experience with JIRA/Confluence.
- Proficiency in requirements gathering tools, business process modeling (BPM), and documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Jira, Confluence).
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid.
- Understanding of databases, data analysis, and business intelligence tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to operate in a team environment.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to think critically and strategically.
- Strong business acumen and a technical mindset.
- Outcome focused.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into business language.

$110k (salary plus 15% bonus)
