The Prospect

The Automation Controls Engineering Specialist will provide controls‑related engineering support for two of the West Side Atlantic plants. The role is a full‑time day position with the possibility of emergency support for our 24/5 operations. Work will rotate between the Hannon and Mississauga plants.

What You’ll Do

- Act as subject expert in diagnostics for complex issues that cannot be solved by our internal electricians (50% of the time).
- Provide technical support when a machine is down – top priority (24/5).
- Understand and program PLCs (Siemens S7 or Allen Bradley RSLogix) and program SCADA or Python.
- Configure and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).
- Provide cross training to electricians when time permits and during debugging of complex problems.
- Back‑up PLC, SCADA, HMIs, and drives.
- Obtain missing files for assets from OEMs (programs, schematics, parts lists, manuals) and maintain over 50 engineering software packages on controls engineering laptops.
- Ensure engineering laptops can connect to various devices (drives, PLCs, HMIs), mainly Allen Bradley and Siemens.
- Provide training to electricians when time permits.

What You Bring

- Technologist, engineer,



or electrician with 8 years of OEM machine building experience required.
- For technologists or engineers: minimum 5 years of OEM machine building experience, preferably PLC/SCADA programming, VFD configuration, electrical control system integration, and commissioning complex automation/robotics systems with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, SCADA/HMIs.
- For electricians: minimum 8 years of OEM machine building experience with the same technical background. Candidates with hands‑on controls programming and PLC/drive integration are preferred.

Preferred Experience (if Applicable)

Hardware and Software Experience

- Experience with PLC/SCADA programming, PLC/drive integration, and commissioning complex automation/robotic systems with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs and SCADA/HMIs.

PLCs (Allen Bradley) Hardware / Software / Communication

- Hardware: SLC 500 Series, SLC 501, SLC 503, SLC 504, MICROLOGIX 1400, MICROLOGIX 1500, CompactLogix, ControlLogix, GuardLogix.
- Software: RSLogix 500, Studio 5000 Standard.
- Communications: RSNetworx, RSLinx.

PLCs (Siemens) Hardware / Software / Communication

- Hardware: SIMATIC S7‑300, SIMATIC S7‑400, SIMATIC S7‑1200, SIMATIC S7‑1500.
- Software: STEP 7‑Micro/WIN, SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional (TIA Portal).
- Communications: PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, MPI/PPI.

Drives

- Lenze: 8200, 9300, 9400, i950.
- Allen Bradley: Power Flex 4, 40, 520, 750.
- Communications:



Lenze – CAN/RS232/Profibus; Siemens – Profinet/Profibus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Understand or be trained on PLC software logic, program PLCs (Siemens S7 or AB RSLogix), and program SCADA or Python.
- Understand PLC/drive system integration and communication protocols.
- Configure, set up, and troubleshoot VFDs.
- Diagnose complex automation/robotics systems using electrical meters, PLC software, and SCADA.

Hiring Range: $90,300 – $112,900 per year. A candidate’s experience and knowledge may be factored into the pay for this position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
