Sedgman is looking for an intermediate Mechanical Designer (Materials Handling ) - to join our team in the Vancouver, B.C. office. The ideal incumbent will have robust experience in detailed design and layout of ore handling systems in mining/heavy industrial projects, including storage, crushing, screening, conveying, stockpiling and reclaiming. The role includes creation of detailed layouts, general arrangements, 3D models, and fabrication drawings for these systems, and working with the engineering team to develop solutions which satisfy project requirements.
The incumbent will be involved in the entire design process, from concept to detailed design, with a transparent focus on material handling - mechanical expertise.

What does this role involve? Main Responsibilities:
- Complete detailed design of equipment and plant layouts from sketches or specification outlines in the mechanical field under direction of engineers or a supervising designer.
- Create detailed 2D layouts and 3D models of materials handling equipment (e.g., ore handling equipment, bins, crushing and conveying systems, and stockpiles) using software packages such as AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Inventor, and Navisworks.
- Interface with other disciplines such as civil/earthworks in order to optimize layouts.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs meet structural and functional requirements.
- Conduct material take-offs to assist in cost estimation and project planning, and assist with field measurements.
- Provide drafting support to the project teams in line with management direction from them whilst maximizing individual and teams utilisation.
- Focus on meeting expectations for schedule,
quality and client satisfaction.
- Support Project Development activities through the concept setting and review process.
- Participate in the review of designs and advise on technical drafting difficulties or compliance requirements as appropriate.
- Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design.
- Upkeep of drawing list and percentage complete status.
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system.
- Understand Sedgman standard specifications and typical/standard drawings to reflect current industry standards.
What are we looking for in our future team member? Qualifications:
- Associate Diploma in CAD / or any other formal training certificates.
- Must have 5 – 7 years’ experience in Mechanical Design or Material Handling in an Engineering design/consultancy environment preferably.
- Ability to take an engineering concept and convert it into a 3D design.
- Strong expertise in Auto CAD 3D software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Navisworks) is essential.
- Discipline-based AutoCAD product usage required.
- Experience in a material handling / heavy industrial environment required.
- Skills in MS Office Suite.
- Eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Salary range: $87,000 - $112,000
