Treasurer & Director of Fundraising

Position Overview
The Treasurer & Director of Fundraising of the British Columbia Bobsled and Skeleton Association (BCBSA) is responsible for the financial stewardship and revenue development of the organization. This role ensures full compliance with the Societies Act, maintains accurate financial records, safeguards organizational assets, and provides transparent reporting to the Board.
In addition, the Treasurer & Director of Fundraising leads and supports fundraising initiatives to enhance the financial sustainability and growth of BCBSA’s programs and athlete development pathways.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, this position requires solid financial acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to support revenue generation initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities – Financial Governance & Oversight
- Maintain proper accounting records in compliance with the Societies Act and applicable financial standards.
- Oversee the deposit of funds, safekeeping of securities, and appropriate disbursement of BCBSA funds.
- Implement and monitor sound financial controls to protect the organization’s assets.
- Provide regular financial reports to the Board, outlining all transactions and the current financial position of the Association.
- Lead or support the development of the annual operating budget and monitor financial performance against approved budgets.
- Ensure timely completion of required financial filings and regulatory reporting.
- Liaise with external auditors or reviewers, if appointed, and facilitate access to required documentation.
Key Responsibilities – Fundraising & Revenue Development
- Collaborate with the Board and senior leadership to develop and implement fundraising strategies aligned with BCBSA’s strategic plan.
- Support the identification, development, and financial oversight of grant applications and funding proposals.
- Assist in developing sponsorship packages, donor engagement strategies, and revenue-generating partnerships.
- Provide financial oversight and reporting for fundraising events and campaigns.
- Monitor and report on fundraising performance and revenue targets to the Board.
- Contribute to long-term financial planning to support athlete development, programming, and organizational growth.
Additional Duties
- Perform such other powers and duties as the Board may specify.
- Provide financial advice and insight to support strategic decision-making.
- Promote transparency and accountability in all financial and fundraising activities.
Qualifications
- Background in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Experience with nonprofit financial governance and reporting.
- Knowledge of fundraising principles, grant funding, and sponsorship development is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- High level of integrity and commitment to fiduciary responsibility.
Education and Experience
- CPA designation or equivalent financial training is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience as a Treasurer, finance director, or in a senior financial leadership role within a nonprofit, sport organization, or community association is an asset.
- Experience supporting fundraising initiatives or revenue development strategies is strongly preferred.
