Job Summary
The Power Engineer – 5th Class is a mid‑entry level position responsible for assisting other technicians, performing maintenance and repair, and routine services on non‑technical facility components such as walls and floors. The engineer performs work in accordance with established processes and practices, and complies with internal and external requirements, including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Troubleshooting
- Observes facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies, and suggests enhancements and repairs.
Maintenance
- Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices.
- Complies with all internal and external requirements, including environmental, health, safety, and fire protection.
- Performs regular monitoring and inspection of facility technical and non‑technical components.
- Responds to routine service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Operates facility mechanical, electrical, and other systems.
- Manages the work order life cycle from dispatch to completion, records resolution data within the service maintenance management database, and ensures work meets quality, contract response, and all other requirements.
- Assists in implementing the preventive maintenance (PM) program; identifies, records, escalates deficiencies, and maintains related documents.
Client Relations
- Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
Administration
- Records resolution data within the service maintenance management database, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Receives, tracks, monitors, and reports the status of maintenance and repair work within the database, initiating documents to obtain formal approval of required work.
- Participates in and assists with facility‑related projects.
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health, safety, fire protection, and other applicable requirements.
- Maintains all assigned tools, arranging repair and replacement as required.
- Submits all expenditures in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of facility operations and maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
- Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair non‑technical facility components.
- Ability to observe facility conditions and deficiencies and suggest improvements.
- Ability to research, learn, and apply fire, life,
and building codes and standards.
- Strong commitment to environmental, health, and safety and ability to work safely.
- Client‑service orientation and high sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills for data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
- Basic knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings and information.
- Self‑motivated and computer literate.
- Demonstrated maintenance and repair skills.
- Willingness to work shifts, be on‑call/stand‑by, and respond to emergency call‑outs.
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment.
Licenses and Professional Accreditation
- 5th Class Power Engineering certification required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
Additional Credentials (Assets)
- Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution (preferred).
- Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC).
- Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA).
- Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT).
- Facilities Technician Certification.
- Working toward a trade license (considered an asset).
- Working toward Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1.
