Position Specifications

Reports to General Manager

Direct Reports: Department Managers/Supervisors/Team Leads

Hours / Schedule

- Full-time, year-round leadership position.
- Includes weekday, weeknight, and weekend shifts — this is retail, after all.
- We’re open to a flexible schedule where it makes sense.
- Heads up: November and December are full send — no extended holidays or time off during our peak season.

Position Summary

Lead the daily operations of the store with a focus on exceptional customer service, day-to-day leadership, and operational excellence. Build, train, and inspire a high-performance team that delivers an outstanding in-store experience and maintains Sundance’s reputation for quality, expertise, and passion for snow sports. Oversee all shop functions—including sales, rentals, service, merchandising, inventory, and customer service – ensuring that targets are achieved, processes run smoothly, and every interaction exceeds customer expectations. This is a hands-on store management role that requires presence on the floor, engaging with customers, supporting your team, and driving results.

Key Accountabilities

Team Leadership & Development

• Recruit, train, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team in your store.

• Foster a positive, collaborative, and customer-first culture.

• Set explicit expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide coaching and feedback.

• Recognize individual strengths and assign responsibilities to maximize productivity and staff engagement.

Customer Experience & Quality Control

• Develop and oversee quality control protocols to ensure every customer interaction meets Sundance’s high standards.

• Resolve customer concerns quickly and effectively,



building trust and loyalty.

• Serve as a role model for exceptional service, professionalism, and passion for snow sports.

Operational Excellence

• Oversee and manage daily shop functions including sales, merchandising, customer service, cash handling, and rentals.

• Ensure smooth workflows, clear communication, and alignment across departments.

• Prepare and present operational reports for General Manager as requested

Sales Performance & Business Targets

• Work with the General Manager and Store Owners to set sales and performance targets.

• Develop, implement, and monitor action plans to achieve goals.

• Motivate staff with sales contests, recognition programs, and promotional initiatives.

• Track results and adjust strategies to meet seasonal and business demands.

Scheduling & Staffing

• Create and manage staff schedules based on business levels, seasonal patterns, and operational priorities.

• Ensure adequate coverage in all shop areas while maintaining efficiency and cost control.

Position Requirements

Education

• Business Management Degree or Diploma is an asset.

Experience

• You have a passion for skiing, snowboarding &/or outdoor retail sports.

• 5+ years' experience retail leadership in a customer-focused, quick-paced environment, preferably in specialty retail or sporting goods.

• Proven success in managing day-to-day store operations, including staffing, scheduling, inventory management, merchandising, and sales performance.

• Demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams, with a track record of motivating, coaching, and holding staff accountable.

• Experience in delivering exceptional customer experiences and resolving customer service issues with professionalism and fairness.





• Hands-on involvement in operational execution – comfortable working on the floor alongside staff, leading by example, and jumping in to assist as needed.

• Experience managing seasonal retail cycles and adapting staffing, inventory, and sales strategies to meet changing business demand.

Travel

• The position is primarily based out of our Edmonton location, with intermittent travel between the various locations. Travel frequency may fluctuate based on business needs, seasonal demands, and special events. Flexibility and a willingness to be present where you’re needed most is key.

• Customer Experience Excellence. Strong ability to model and train customer service standards, ensuring every interaction reflects the Sundance philosophy.

• Operational Management. Knowledge of cash handling, POS system management, merchandising standards, and inventory control.

• Communication Skills. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to engage effectively with staff, customers, suppliers, and store owners.

• Decision-Making & Problem-Solving. Confident making quick, effective decisions that balance customer satisfaction with business goals, even under pressure.

• Organizational Skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high operational standards.

• Technology Proficiency. Comfortable with retail systems, POS platforms, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace; able to adapt to new technology and processes quickly.

• Adaptability. Flexible and resilient in a fast-changing retail environment, particularly during peak seasonal periods.

• Hands-On Management. Willing and able to work alongside staff in all areas of the store, including sales, merchandising, rentals, and service, to ensure smooth daily operations.
