For over 135 years, St. John Ambulance (SJA) has been training Ontarians annually in first aid and other applied health and safety courses, including related products, and remains dedicated to saving lives at work, home, and play. SJA also offers innovative volunteer programs such as medical first response, emergency response, car seat education, health and safety related youth programs, therapy dog services and home caregiver education. As a charitable, humanitarian organization, proceeds from SJA's training/product sales directly support these vital volunteer community services programs.

SJA is offering an exciting chance for a qualified and ambitious individual to take the role of Controller (Finance) reporting to SJA’s Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will oversee a wide range of finance and accounting activities within SJA.

Essential Duties
n
- Oversees the administration of SJA’s consolidated provincial office/regional budget and fiscal results, annual audit, investment administration, and related initiatives
- With the CEO, provides leadership that supports the strategic direction of SJA
- Develops and implements programs related to financial and systems management, and administration
- Develops and implements standards and risk management policies and procedures related to governance, operational, financial, environmental or external risks
- Liaises with Regional Managers, staff and contract finance teams providing support for their development and growth in understanding financial reporting and implementing appropriate operational responses
- Establishes and maintains partnerships with the National Office and pan-Canadian Councils relative to provincial finances and financial systems
- In consultation with the CEO, sets and administers the provincial office budget and related initiatives
- Provides support to SJCO Groups and Committees as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
n
- CPA with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting and finance experience at a senior accounting/finance level and preferably in the not-for-profit sector
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent in accounting, business, finance
- Proficiency in financial, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and MS Office—advanced knowledge of Excel
- Proven success in business processes and operations
- Ability to provide insightful analysis using financial and CRM tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid organizational and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience collaborating with non-profit boards and committees

PARAMETERS
n
- The nature of the position will regularly require occasional evening and weekend work and travel within Ontario and occasionally throughout Canada.
- Salary range: $90,000-$130,000 per annum
