The Manager, Practical Experience is responsible for the overall direction and management of the CPA Practical Experience Requirements program. With changes coming to the CPA Professional Program, this role will be focused over the next three years on transitioning to the new program. This position is also responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and tracking of projects and operations that support the processes for Practical Experience Requirements. This role reports to the Associate Director, Practical Experience.

CPA Alberta has offices in Edmonton and Calgary and provides hybrid Telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What you bring

- CPA designation along with at least 4 years of post-designation experience.
- Two years of people management or supervisory experience.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute projects according to established business plans.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to explain and demonstrate technical knowledge and application in a practical manner.
- Work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks and priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work within a team and independently.
- Familiarity with the CPA Practical Experience Requirements and Preapproved Program Route programs is an asset.

What you will be doing

- Assist in the management of the Practical Experience department by overseeing the work and performance of staff,



and creating departmental goals, plans and performance measurements.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent messages are delivered on matters related to Practical Experience Requirements.
- Meet with employers to educate and support them in the transition to the current CPA program.
- Evaluate existing Pre-Approved Programs (PPRs) against the new program requirements and providing support through the transition.
- Communicate transition evaluations and requirements to both candidates and employers.
- Review the work of Practical Experience Specialists and assist with more complicated situations.
- Assist the Associate Director and Director in developing departmental policies and processes that support the new program requirements.
- Oversee the review process of pre-approved programs, ensuring that deficiencies in training programs are escalated.
- Evaluate candidates’ international experience and collaborate with the CPAWSB as appropriate on international applicant initiatives.
- Develop resources and training materials for staff, mentors, employers and candidates on the new program requirements.

Working Specifications
