The McGill University Department of Family Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (Tenure Track) in conjunction with a Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 1. In alignment with our commitment to fostering Indigenous leadership in health sciences and academic excellence, this is a special priority call for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis scholars. McGill University is a signatory of DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment) and this Canada Research Chair is open to both external candidates, and to internal candidates.

The McGill University Department of Family Medicine is dedicated to deepening its engagement with Indigenous communities and expanding its leadership, research, and teaching capacity in areas relevant to Indigenous health. To this end, we invite applications from scholars who integrate relevant experience and expertise in Indigenous knowledges, epistemologies, methodologies, histories, traditions, languages, or systems of laws and governance. We encourage applications from scholars who employ CBPR (community-based participatory research) methods.

The McGill University Department of Family Medicine is home to an exceptional community of primary health care professionals and scholars from a variety of academic backgrounds. Our diverse group of researchers, students, and support staff are committed to contributing to the health of the population and the sustainability of the healthcare system in Quebec as well as in Canada and internationally, by training graduate students (MSc and PhD), residents, medical students, and other health care professionals. Our department is involved in diverse scholarly pursuits and is committed to the advancement of the academic discipline of family medicine and the broader field of primary care. Current active areas of investigation include health services and policy, knowledge translation, public health, medical education, global health, information technology, diverse qualitative methods and methodologies, clinical care,
and biostatistics in primary care. With graduate programs at both the master’s and PhD levels, we are methodological leaders in participatory and mixed-methods research with a demonstrated record of national and international leadership with extensive collaborations with other departments and faculties.

Comprising twelve urban and rural University Family Medicine Groups across the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal and broader Quebec, our clinics serve a registered patient base exceeding 140,000. Affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, these groups provide an opportunity to bridge the gap between research, education, and clinical practice.

The successful nominee for this Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 1 will possess a distinguished record of research excellence, characterized by significant national and international recognition within the fields of Family Medicine or Primary Care. As a CRC Tier 1 holder, the incumbent is expected to engage in creative programs of research that help train the next generation of highly skilled scholars through student supervision, innovative teaching, and meaningful community outreach.

Following a successful evaluation, the successful candidate that satisfies the conditions will be supported by the University for nomination to a CRC. Candidates for the CRC will be assessed based on demonstrated evidence of existing outstanding original research, and clear recognition as an original researcher of world-class calibre and as a leader in their field. Applicants should review both the Eligibility and Selection Criteria for Tier 1 chairs.
