Service branch is responsible for ensuring the department’s legislative responsibilities Under the Wildfires Act are met, including wildfire management planning, response, prevention and mitigation, through the delivery of programs and services,



and management of resources entrusted to the branch to carry out this mandate.

Duties

n

Reporting to the Regional Wildfire Superintendent (RWS), and working in cooperation with other Fire Operations Managers, Area Fire Managers, Provincial Fire Centre staff, other branches, and partner agencies, the Regional Fire Operations Manager (FOM) is responsible for planning and implementation of key aspects of the Regional wildfire management program, including prevention, detection, pre-suppression and suppression operations. The incumbent is responsible for the management and supervision of the Regional Area Fire Managers, and overseeing operations within the assigned Fire Management Areas from a regional perspective. The Regional FOM is one of two primary Regional Duty Officers (RDO) for the region on a seasonal,



rotational basis.

As the RDO, The Regional FOM is responsible for the procurement of all goods and services to support regional wildfire operations, coordination of resource movement within, and at times, outside the province, and is responsible for the prioritization, strategic deployment and cost effective use of all assigned resources. The Regional FOM manages the work of various staff, committees, and working groups to ensure the strategic and operational goals and objectives of the branch are met, including the development of branch policies and procedures. The Regional FOM works closely with stakeholder groups, indigenous communities and other levels of government to meet common goals related to reducing the risk of wildfire.

As a key member of the branch management team, The Regional FOM provides strategic advice and support to the RWS, and in their absence, the Director, and/or ADM regarding operational issues.

Qualifications

n

Essential

n

Graduate of a resource-based or emergency management program from a recognized college or university. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

n

Experience in wildfires including emergency management best practices, wildfire operations, prevention, mitigation and incident management.

n

Solid problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to find creative solutions to issues and implement change.

n

Experience supervising and leading staff.

n

Experience in financial management such as managing budgets for operational and program resources.

n

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships wit
