The Westlock News is part of the Town and Country This Week, an award-winning news outlet that produces one print edition per week, along with a daily newsletter. The Town and Country This Week is part of the Great West Media news company, which owns papers across Alberta.

Qualifications

nWho are you?n

- You understand writing for both print and digital platforms and are interested in drawing readers into a story
- You are a self-starter and naturally curious, who can easily generate story ideas
- The successful candidate will need to be able to work in a fast-paced newsroom and keep Westlock residents up to date with the most recent breaking news
- You are innovative and are willing to think outside of the box and try new things




- You love telling stories and will use photography and video to support your writing
- You have a digital-first mindset, as the news doesn’t wait for the paper to get published
- You have a vehicle and enthusiasm for the industry
- A degree in journalism or communications would be preferred but not necessary. Attitude and enthusiasm are the most important qualities in this role.

The successful candidate in this role will thrive writing stories for our weekly newspaper while also keeping Westlock residents up to date with the most recent news in the town through our digital platform and daily newsletter. You will be pitching, sourcing, researching, and writing both long-form and short articles for our platforms.
