As host to a range of interdisciplinary programs offered to artists at all stages of their careers from Canada and across the world, The Director, Banff Centre Presents is responsible for the curation, planning and successful implementation of Banff Centre Presents events. The goal is to provide an outstanding experience for artists, audiences, participants and faculty.Banff Centre Presents includes a variety of events across Banff Centre venues including:Music, dance, theatre and inter-disciplinary eventsCLVB'33 programming (including music, cabaret, comedy, spoken word)Summer Arts Festival including outdoor amphitheatreOversight for Banff International String Quartet Festival and CompetitionRoles and Responsibilities Reporting To The Executive Director, Arts, And Working In Collaboration With The President And CEO, The Director, Banff Centre Presents will seek to showcase works by international and Canadian artists across all disciplines in support of Banff Centre's strategic plan. Where possible this includes aligning programming with arts programs and residencies to promote crossover activities and connections that will amplify the experience of participants on campus.Below are some key accountabilities:Event Planning: provide leadership to the Producer, Banff Centre Presents, the BISQ Competition and Festival Manager, and Program Coordinator, and collaborate with the Director, BISQ Competition and Festival.Work with the Producer to develop and manage event budgets (forecasting, resource allocation, revenue targets, contingency planning) and liaise with Production, Marketing and Communications and other departments.With support from the Producer, liaise with the Managing Director, Program Operations on departmental budgets, feasibility planning, rooming and venue availability.During planning, ensure Banff Centre approved processes and timelines are respected and proactively flag risks or constraints that may impact delivery.Negotiate fees and terms for artists and supervise the contracting process undertaken by the Producer.Liaise with the Development Department on grant opportunities and applications,
and with Marketing on sponsorship opportunities.Oversee coordination with Marketing, Communications, and Development to ensure public, media and donor engagement milestones are included in project planning, to deliver audiences and media, and steward funders.Develop and implement transparent reporting and communication processes for event milestones, deliverables, updates, and risk mitigation, in consultation with the Executive Director; convene regular cross-departmental meetings as required.Event Implementation Work with the Producer and other event staff to ensure events are presented to the highest standard and that artists have the best possible experience.Oversee the Producer in contract administration, establishing project timelines, collaboration with other departments to ensure successful delivery of events.Manage approved event budgets, monitor expenditures and sales revenue to deliver events on budget; identify material variances and liaise with the Managing Director, Program Operations for accurate tracking and forecasting.Lead regular event planning review and evaluation to maintain high ethical standards in project implementation and make recommendations as appropriate.Team Leadership and Organisational Culture Provide strong, values-based leadership to a diverse team of artistic, production, administrative, and programming staff.Clarify roles, responsibilities, and deliverables of the Producer and Program Delivery Specialist (where assigned) and ensure resources are identified and aligned.Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop team members, with clear performance expectations and succession planning.Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented culture that supports artistic excellence and exceptional experiences for artists, patrons and guests.Promote continuous improvement and professional development with high standards of performance.Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners, union representatives, artists, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless planning and delivery of events and festivals.Uphold fiscal, operational, and organizational integrity in leadership and decision-making.Qualifications And Educational Requirements 10+ years' senior management experienceUniversity degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge network within national and global artist management touring/presentation fieldsProven passion for arts across a wide range of performing arts disciplinesExperience building audience loyalty and audience engagement strategiesExperience and proven success with presenting festivals and events with background in both curatorial and commercial presentingExcellent strategic, planning, and project management skillsStrong fiscal knowledge and data analysis abilityEffective interpersonal skills used to build relationships,
