Job Description:
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is seeking three (3)
Youth Advisors that will work together as a team to
plan, implement and evaluate regional cancer prevention
programs and initiatives (i.e. sun safety, tobacco,
healthy living and HPV vaccine) targeting youth. The
position entails work in the community and with relevant
stakeholders, such as local schools, the public health
unit, and other cancer-related organizations (i.e.
Canadian Cancer Society). The YAC is a regional
committee, therefore travel within the Simcoe Muskoka
Region may be required. Successful candidates will be
creative and innovative with great interpersonal and






problem solving skills in addition to being social media
and computer savvy. YAC members will act as ambassadors
for cancer prevention in their community and be role
models for peers in cancer prevention and health
promotion. Note: this role will not have direct
interaction with patients of the Simcoe Muskoka Regional
Cancer Program.

Education:


- Upcoming enrolment in grade 11 or 12 for the school

year commencing September 2019

Experience:


- Leadership experience in a variety of roles
- Experience with program and/or event planning
- Experience working as part of a team
- Experience with social media
- Experience with computers/graphic design

Competencies:


- Keen interest in cancer prevention and education
- Interest in youth/community engagement and empowerment
- Strong leadership skills and enthusiastic about

leadership development


- Creative and innovative skills to address health

promotion


- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication is

essential


- Ability to demonstrate initiative
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to hear and act on constructive criticism
- Ability to provide clear and concise verbal

instruction


- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Work effectively in a fast paced environment
- Able to stand, sit or walk for duration of work shift
- Able to travel to regional events as needed
- Proven demonstration of workplace excellence shown by

commitment to strong job performance and attendance


- Ability and experience demonstrated through positive

attendance, performance appraisals and work history
