Ottawa Inner City Health is looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our Dymon health clinic. The successful incumbent will work closely and collaborate with the staff and managers working in this program as team member in order to provide high quality care to clients following a harm reduction philosophy. Background: Ottawa Inner City Health Inc (OICHI) provides health care services for people who are chronically homeless with complex health needs.



All our programs operate within a harm reduction model and priority for service targets those with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Our role is to coordinate and integrate health care services so that homeless individuals can receive the same quality of health care as other Canadians. Applicants are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with harm reduction and its application in the health care setting as well as the programs and services offered by the OICHI prior to submitting their resume.



Internal/ External Competition:-Open to all, preference will be given to internal qualified candidates. Position Summary The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for: Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultation and health education.



Supports the work of the clinical nurse coordinators through consultation or collaborative care. Obtains patient histories and develops patient care charts, ensuring completeness and accuracy. Provides health education to front line workers within area of specialty.



Supervises and/or coordinates the activities of patient care and/or support staff. May participate in planning programs and in developing specific health policies and procedures. Supports the efforts of outreach workers, housing workers and other community support personnel to provide care to the patient.





Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned (i.e.: vaccination clinics, etc.). Hours of



Work:Hours of work will be scheduled Monday to Friday 7.5 hours per day (8:00-4:00pm), and will include one weekend out of 4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.



Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge if current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of clinical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise. Meets the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.



Possess a current Registered Nurse (EC),

Certificate of Competence. Guided by the service delivery philosophy and the mission of the Inner City Health Inc. A minimum of three years recent (within one year) experience within the area of nursing related to role.



Demonstrated competence in clinical nursing practice related to the care of adult homeless persons. Recent experience as a nurse in a care setting other than hospital such as homecare, visiting nurse, ambulatory care. Demonstrated ability to work with other care professionals in care delivery.



Demonstrated ability to teach, consult and negotiate. Understand how to apply harm reduction strategies in the clinical setting. Act effectively in situations of profound loss, and suffering and with individuals who chose to live at risk.



Be involved with patients to promote their abilities, independence and self-esteem through practical skills,

advanced nursing knowledge and compassionate understanding. Bilingualism is considered an asset. Be available to work at least one weekend per month.
